The Old School Master

This story has no explanation. It comes from Doris Powers who live in Ohio. She sent this in via the website and haas titled it The Old School Master.

One night around 10pm my husband and I were sitting in the living room trying to find a movie to watch on Amazon Prime. We have four video surveillance cameras outside. Two that point to the front door at different angles, one for the back yard and one for the side of the house. The monitor screen is kept in the living room on a table next to the recliner that I was sitting in. I had just sat down when I heard a child’s voice come over the monitor, “hellooooooo”

I thought to myself for a minute. Does my son have his bedroom window open and is he yelling through it for some reason? Then I remembered.. no it can’t be. He was sleeping in my bed. I called up to him and he answered. I looked back at the monitor screen and I saw this man, who appeared to be very tall. He was wearing a red and white flannel shirt. He was holding a little girl’s hand, she looked like she had striped long sleeves with frizzy white hair. They were walking up the steps to get to our front door, so I turned to my husband and said “somebody is here!”

Now I need to point out here that we live in the middle of absolute nowhere by a swamp. My closest neighbors are bears and coyotes and a couple Amish houses about a mile or so down the road. So, there are never-ever any people walking down our street at night on this rural back road. So it seemed very strange to us. Just as the man and the girl get to our front door, my husband opens it and they’re gone. Not a single trace or sign of them. My husband went outside to see if he could see any cars, but there was nothing. We thought maybe they were having car trouble and stopped for help but there were no signs of that. I got our dog, grabbed a flashlight, and went outside, but nothing was there. We searched for quite a while.

My husband suggested that we go back over the camera footage. However, nothing was recorded on any of them. We both saw them, so we know it happened. My husband didn’t believe in ghosts. However, after seeing that he has changed his mind. We have lived in this house for four years and have never experienced anything like it .

My husband admitted that one night while I was working late he saw something moving in the yard and thought it was an animal. When he went out to look, our son’s tire swing was swinging back and forth like crazy. Another thing, quite recently our son doesn’t like to sleep in his bed because it sounds like something is crawling around under it.

The original part of the house was built in the 1800s and was used as a school house. An addition was put onto the house 20 years ago to make it bigger. The old school master’s house used to be across the street. It had fallen into disrepair so we had it demolished. These events happened the day after the final work was completed.

What happened is really weird, and we’ve come to terms with it, probably a ghost sighting. Perhaps the old school master is moving on.  I know I’m not crazy because we saw them and heard them too. I’ve not seen any ghosts in my lifetime. I just wondered what took so long for me to see one here. What bothers me is that it seemed like they wanted to get my attention and that makes me feel very uneasy. So. Weird.

Update: Our son still hasn’t been sleeping in his room. He tells me he sees things and I believe him 100%. We are turning what used to be his playroom into a new bedroom. I wanted to see what he was experiencing so I went and tried to sleep in his room and every single night I would have a nightmare. So We said he can sleep in our room until his new room is ready, which will hopefully be in a couple days. – Doris Powers

But I Saw It!

T.A.Y.S. stands for These Are Your Stories

Our story today was sent in  by Austin Sherman-Burke who writes to us from Los Angeles. He has titled this story, “But I saw It!”

When I was 10 years old I was sleeping over at my friend’s apartment in the same complex as me. It was a late summer night when I suddenly woke up not feeling good for some reason so I went to the window to breathe in some fresh air. I was thinking it was probably a nightmare that I just couldn’t remember which was weird because I always do… anyways, my friends were dead asleep in the same room as me and I’m at the window.

First I look around at the top of the trees, and then the sky. My eyes go down towards the street in front of me then I see a man dressed in black. I could see his red eyes staring up right at our window..staring at me. He’s not moving a finger just standing there looking at me. I woke up my friends telling them to look down at the street, which they immediately did. They all looked back at me like I was crazy saying that they couldn’t see anything and that there was no one down there. Mind you at this point I’m just crying and hysterically telling them that he’s right there right in front of them, but they couldn’t see him. They eventually went and woke their older brother who was 17 years old so that he could come and try to calm me down. After a while I did, but I never went back to sleep.

That was the end of it. I am 25 years old now and still live in LA. I never saw anything else after that. I am not schizophrenic at all. I had a shrink when I was 14 but that was for social anxiety because of moving so often. To this day I am quite confused about that night and what I really saw. Ron, I’m curious to know if anyone has experienced something like this? Have you heard stories like this before? – Austin Sherman-Burke

Well Austin, I can say that we have had many stories like this one on the show in the past. However, none of them have had a shadow that only they could see. That is a first. Some will say that the night can play tricks with the eye, however I am not sure that applies to this situation. There are many cases of people seeing things that only they see. Unfortunately, most of these are attributed to hallucinations. You did say that you may have had a bad dream. But it doesn’t make sense that the apparition would persist.  I do know this. People find that telling their stories can be quite cathartic. I hope that is the case for you.

The Music Never Stops

We have a short story with no explanation. It was sent in for us by Bryant Fowler who lives in the great state of New York. He has titled his story, The Music Never Stops.

Hello Ron, never miss the show. So the past few nights I have been hearing music. I can’t tell what kind of music exactly but it sounds like a mixture between jazz and classical. The scariest incident happened a few nights ago when I was out in my living room in the darkness talking to one of my buddies over discord. Just texting, no voice chat. Then I heard the music for the second time that week. I got up, was more curious than scared and went into the dining room. Now I thought originally, “ok, my girlfriend is still in bed. It’s 4AM and maybe she is up? Snapchatting or something? As soon as I went into the dining room it shifted and sounded like it was coming from the room I just left, the exact opposite way of the dining room. I chased it around for a good solid 5 minutes before it just went away. We’re not the type of people to just have radios laying around, we keep one for emergencies only. I still don’t know what to make of this and it still freaks me out today. Do you have any idea of what it was?  For the record it is NOT the neighbors. The closest one to us is a good 500 feet away.

Well Bryant I have no idea what you heard. I did some research on the internet and I found a family in Lockport that said strange sounds, including music and talk radio, have been coming out of their walls and keeping them up at night off and on for about six years. It may sound like an episode of the popular Netflix show “Stranger Things,” but the mysterious sounds they are hearing are real. They captured some of the late night noise on a phone and sent it to a local TV station. The music was faint, but you could hear it. The family called Lockport police, who took two detailed reports about the bizarre problem. In one, the officer noted that he could hear voices and music. Then the officer said he heard a commercial for the Christian radio station AM 1160. The station sent out an engineer to investigate the transmission. He said, ‘I got to be honest with you. I have no idea what is receiving the signal. There is nothing that can explain why you’re actually hearing it.’ The family tore up the wall of their daughter’s bedroom to inspect the electrical grounding, but nothing was found and the phenomenon still continues.

I doubt that helps much, but it might give you a place to start. Thank you for your story.

Ron

Can Ghosts Dial A Phone?

When asked his thoughts on science fiction Ray Bradbury had this to say, “I don’t write science fiction,” he said. “Science fiction is a depiction of the real. Fantasy is a depiction of the unreal.” So, from that we can conclude that Ray wrote fantasy, which when you think about it makes a lot of sense. Unlike our story for today which is a real head scratcher. It was sent via the website by Dennis Ducane from Seattle, Washington. I won’t include his entire email, but he did ask the question, “Can ghosts dial a phone?”

Can Ghosts Dial A Phone

One night a friend rushed me out of the house to catch the opening act at a local bar’s music night. After a few drinks I realized my phone wasn’t in my pocket. I checked the table we were sitting at, the bar, the bathrooms, and after no luck. I used my friend’s phone to call mine. After two rings someone answered, gave out a low raspy giggle, and hung up. They didn’t answer again. I eventually gave it up as a lost cause and headed home. When I got home I found my phone laying on my nightstand, right where I left it. – Dennis Ducane

Creepy as all get out Dennis and proves the point that you should never leave your phone at home alone. Thank you for sending this one in and to answer your question. I am not sure if ghosts can dial phones, and I am not sure I want to know.

The Little Pink Shed

This story was sent in by Shelby Trask from Florida. For the record I edited this one, a lot, for language. Not judging, and I did get Shelby’s permission. This is one of the more creepy tales we have had and every time I read it I get the chills. – Ron

The Little Oink Shed

25 years ago I moved in with my cousin and her roommate Jose. The house was an old cement block three bedroom one bath house with a large fenced yard. He had two large German Shepherds that lived there and were mostly in the yard. The house is in Clairmel, Florida in a crummy packed suburban neighborhood. Nothing special. The rent was cheap. 50 bucks a week from what I remember and the house was clean and since my cousin lived there I moved in. We all got along well. Everyone worked. We pretty much kept to ourselves and saw each other for a few minutes here and there. I lived there for about 6 months. After these events I moved out.

On a weekend night we all happened to be off from work. We decided to invite some friends over from the pool hall that we frequented and Jose invited some people over that he worked with at the pharmaceutical lab. There were probably 20 twenty people there total.

We played music and did what young people do. Eventually it got pretty late and we found ourselves talking about ghosts. We all shared stories. My cousin and I come from a pretty spooky family so we had some good ones and everybody was really into the discussion. However, Jose was quiet throughout and waited until things quieted down and said, “This house is haunted.”

My cousin and I shot each other a look and then both laughed because, yeah, sometimes Jose’s 20 pound house cat would meow at the empty hallway. But that was it. He proceeded to tell us that there was a presence in the house but that it mostly stayed in this tiny little pink wooden shed in the backyard. I had never even looked in there before.

He told us that he always keeps the curtains in his bedroom closed because his window faces the shed and the door won’t stay shut. He has jammed it close a million times and it always pops back open. It creeps him out. He said he could tell when it was in the house because he would wake up feeling depressed.

It creeped me out. I didn’t want to think that I lived with a “presence” and I didn’t like the idea that it was hurting my roommate. I was a “tough” chick in my opinion and I was like, “Truffles to that ghost. I’ll shut that door and you won’t have to keep your curtains closed anymore!”

I said all this because in my heart I didn’t *really* believe that anything was in the shed or the house. So I told them all that I was going outside to inspect the shed and deal with the door. Everyone followed me and while we were walking around the outside of the house Jose told me that it was a bad idea to mess with the shed. Also, whatever it was wanted that door open and I should just leave it alone.

We all got out there and it was exactly what I thought it was going to be. A very worn down wooden shed that oddly kinda looked like a tiny house. I looked inside and there was a busted lawnmower, some old paint buckets, rusty window screens, and of course darkness. I looked around outside and found a rusty shovel leaning up against a tree. I took it, walked over to the shed, and I kicked the door back into its frame. The door was closed and I took the handle of the shovel and pushed it through the handle of the shed door. I shoved that into the ground so It was secure.

We all went back inside and talked some more but it was late. Everyone said their goodbyes. We let the dogs out of their pen in the yard and locked the gate. We made sure the front gate was secured so they wouldn’t get out and then we straightened up the house a little and all went to bed.

Sometime around 6AM I woke up and I opened my bedroom door. I was still sleepy but there was a weird sound. It startled me. Like fingernails scraping something coarse. I fully opened the door and that dang rusty shovel fell through the doorway and hit me!  I can’t even put into words how I felt at that moment.

The shovel had been standing against my bedroom door. There was a tiny pile of dirt where the tip had been sitting. I rushed through the house. To the side door, which was locked and then out to the back yard. The shed door was wide open. I felt like I couldn’t breathe. I ran back into the house.

I immediately pounded on both Jose and my cousin’s bedroom doors. I was terrified and angry. I knew, absolutely knew, that one of them had done this! However, after seeing their reactions I promise you neither of them did it.

Jose literally started to weep. He begged me to tell him I was lying. He begged my cousin to admit that she had done it. When neither of us would take responsibility he went to the store and got a bunch of candles, produced a rosary and started to pray whatever it was. My Spanish wasn’t even close to fluent enough to keep up with his pleas.

My cousin on the other hand was just ticked off. She was ready to fight me and was adamant that I was pulling a prank! When I knew that neither of them had done it I was literally terrified. There was no way someone else got into the yard, passed the dogs, got the shed door open and then got into the house. I didn’t sleep there again. Every moment spent there after that was beyond intense. We all kind of stopped talking to each other and Jose and my cousin ended up in a terrible argument. She moved out within a week. It took me two weeks to find another place to live and I never went back.
