Our Marquee Story – The Beast Of Space

For our story, we have The Beast of Space by F. E Hardart. It first appeared in Comet Magazine in the July edition, 1941. This is a fantastic tale that could only happen in space and was well beyond its time. The story is read for us by the amazing voice of Mark Nelson who has consented to come on the podcast and tell us all about himself.

Mr. Stanley Swan was raised on a dairy farm in Jasper, NY, spent a dozen years in broadcasting and finally over 35 years as a licensed funeral director. Stan joins us to talk about his new book Undertakings of an Undertaker, true stories of being laid to rest. It is a book told from the point of view of the funeral director in a simple, direct and warm manner. It covers his life from the lost graveyard to the aftermath clean-up of 911. It is a book that everyone should read.

Our marquee story for this week was written by Tom Goodwin and is read for you read by Mark Nelson. A scientist is left alone to man an observation bubble light years away from Earth? a post that has had terrible psychological effects on his predecessors. He tries to reassure himself that nothing is wrong, but gradually paranoia begins to creep on him. Godwin published three novels and twenty-seven short stories. His story, The Cold Equations, is probably his best-known work and was adapted to radio for Dimension X in the 50’s.

Our Marquee Story – The Answer

Our main tale is a science fiction short story called, The Answer. It was written by H. Beam Piper and made its first appearance in Fantastic Universe. When you listen to this story you might think it is a modern tale surely written in our time.  However, it takes place in 1984 and was written in 1959. It tells the story of a post-nuclear war and the efforts to find out who started it.

Our OTR Story – After The Movies

As promised we have an OTR gem this week from the classic radio series Suspense. It stars international icon, Ray Milland. Milland plays a juror on a murder trial who finds an envelope containing a $10,000 bribe on the floor of a drugstore. Our story is called, After The Movies, and first aired on December 7, 1950.
