RAS #317 – Words At War (Replay)

This time on Ron’s Amazing Stories we have a replay from April of 2014. We will look at World War II through news radio broadcasts. We will focus on what it was like here at home. We will use broadcasts from Bing Crosby, Jack Benny and many others who talk about everything from buying war bonds to how you can prevent the sinking of an American ship. It was a tough time for America, but they came together to stop some horrid crimes against mankind. It is my hope that what I have for you gives you a picture of what that era was like.

Our OTR Story – They Call it the Pacific

Our tale comes from the OTR series Words at War. This was is radio program that ran during the war years. Basically, it is a series of stories as told by the men and women who watched it all happen. It was produced in cooperation with the Council on Books in Wartime. Their promise was to present real tales of the battles, underground warfare, what was happening on the home front and of course the action on the seas. I have picked the episode, “They Call it the Pacific” which first aired on July 10, 1943.

The Horror Express Update

Jason and I recorded The Horror Express #20 and it will air as scheduled on March 8th. The topic will be UFO Stories and Jason tells us about the aliens of Nazca. The conductor has chosen an OTR tale called Fire In the Sky and of course we will read listeners comments and questions.

RAS #316 – Into Space

On Ron’s Amazing Stories this week we will have a science fiction story taken from Astounding Stories of Super-Science. We have a “thinker”, type tale from Milton of San Francisco and our OTR story comes from Blackstone The Magician.

Our Marquee Story – Into Space

Our main story this time is something pretty special, but you are going to have to listen to it from a 1930’s point of view. We have a tale from the classic science fiction magazine, Astounding Stories of Super-Science. It’s called, Into Space, and appeared in the February of 1930 edition. It tells of man’s first trip into space. It was written by Sterner St. Paul and is wonderfully read by Steven Bateman.

RAS #315 – A Killing In Abilene

On Ron’s Amazing Stories we are packed with good stuff! We have stuff with Alan Ladd, stuff with Frankenstein and brand new stuff I call, “Johnny, is it true?” Add more stuff, a Five Minute Mystery, and you have a podcast.

Our OTR Story – A Killing in Abilene

Our OTR story has the feel of a classic Western. It also benefits greatly by a stellar performance by Alan Ladd. What we have is an episode of the classic series Suspense. It is sort of a ‘Revenge Western’, without the revenge part. The hero doesn’t want to kill his brother’s murderer but instead bring him to justice in a courtroom. A novel approach to be sure. The tale is called, A Killing in Abilene, and First aired on December 14, 1950.

RAS #314 – Bear Trap

On this episode of Ron’s Amazing Stories, we have all of the usual cool stuff, like a ghost story from a guy who installs cable. Matt Dillon joins the fry with a story about a bear trap and of course, we have a mixed-up Five Minute Mystery.  So, makes this podcast different?

R.A. Salvatore – Robert Anthony Salvatore is an American author best known for The DemonWars Saga, his Forgotten Realms novels, and Vector Prime, the first novel in the Star Wars: The New Jedi Order series. He has sold more than 15 million copies of his books in the United States alone and twenty-two of his titles have been New York Times best-sellers.

Why is this important? Listen to the show this week to find out.

Our OTR Story – Bear Trap

Our OTR story for this week comes from one of those long-running classic Old-Time Radio shows that everyone knows and remembers, Gunsmoke. The story I have for you this time is called, Bear Trap, which first aired on April 21, 1957

RAS #313 – Who Is Helen Huber

On Ron’s Amazing Stories this week there will be sled dogs, mysteries, science fiction-scary stuff, stuff to make think, and even a famous speech. While it may sound like an eclectic group of stories. I assure you that it truly is hodgepodge, but amazing.

Our Marquee Story – I’ll Kill You Tomorrow

We have a story called,  I’ll Kill You Tomorrow, read for us by Mark Nelson. The world labeled this as science fiction, but if I had to place in a genre it would be more like horror.  I will let you settle that score in your own mind. It first appeared the November 1953 edition of “If” magazine.
