Science Fiction Week Two

What? There is a Science Fiction Week Two?  Apparently so! We had so much fun last week I just had to extend it. You have to admit that science fiction is very much a part of our daily lives. From movies, to television, to podcasts it is everywhere. After-all, what would we dream about if not our possible futures?

Another aspect I love about science fiction is its ability to foretell the future. Yes, it makes us dream, but somehow, someway, many of the things that are written about come true. My favorite example comes from Star Trek. Remember all of those pads and clipboards they carried around? Now compare that to your standard smartphone.  No joke! It can do just about everything those plastic jobs did back in the 60’s.  Amazing! Also, we like to solve our current mysteries with science fiction. How were the pyramids built? Why, aliens of course. Or why can’t we find bigfoot? That is because he is an alien time traveler.

On a side note: The next Horror Express Podcast will cover the subject of Bigfoot. Jason and I just about ready to head into the studio and record the show. You can help us provide a better program by telling us what you would like to know about. Just send in your questions, comments or stories about Bigfoot via Twitter, Email or the show-contact-form located on the Horror Express homepage.  We would love to hear from you!

The Seventh VictimOn Ron’s Amazing Stories this week you will find Science Fiction everywhere. So, pack your space suit and your blaster be ready for it. We have an episode of X-Minus one, followed up by a strange story about a man who hold the fates of two worlds in his hands.  So, press that play button and listen to this special Sci-Fi podcast.

OTR Story – The Seventh Victim

Our story is about a post holocaust society in which war has been eradicated. The human need for violence is satisfied by legally sanctioned ‘hunts’, in which volunteers take on the roles of hunters or victims. It is based on a short story first published in Galaxy Science Fiction magazine, in April 1953.  The Story is titled The Seventh Victim and first aired on X-Minus One on March 20, 1957.

Science Fiction Week 2017!

The genre of science fiction takes many forms. So many, it is difficult to lock it down to any one story type or science. One thing stands clear and that is that we humans love to think about a new possible future and science fiction allows us to do that.

What are its exact origins? Again we are dumbfounded and shake our heads. However, there are two broad camps of thought, one that identifies the early fantastical works such as the Sumerian Epic of Gilgamesh (2150–2000 BCE). While purist argues that science fiction only became possible sometime between in the late 17th and early 19th centuries. This is when man began the scientific revolution and major discoveries in astronomy, physics, and mathematics made it possible to dream.

Science Fiction Week TwoIn my mind, it began with the first Golden Age of Science Fiction from 1938 to 1946. I don’t say this because it was not available. Authors like Jules Verne or HG Welles would have reason to argue. I say this because this is when the science fiction genre gained wide public attention and many classic science fiction stories were published, filmed and told. America was ready to move into space and sci-fi provided the doorway.

During World War II, American military planners studied science fiction for ideas. The British did the same, and also asked authors to submit outlandish ideas which the government leaked to the Axis as real plans. Meanwhile, the Germans had developed flying bombs known as V1s and V2s reminiscent of the “rocket ships” ever-present in pulp science fiction. A short story written Cleve Cartmill about a fictional atomic bomb project prompted the FBI to visit the offices of Astounding Science Fiction.

I hope you see my point here. We need Science fiction to fuel and inspire us to move forward as a people. My idea of a good science fiction story? It simple really. Take me somewhere that I have not been and can only dream about.

RAS #270 – The Yellow Wallpaper

The Yellow WallpaperOn Ron’s Amazing Stories  this week we take a look back at the year that was 2016. Our OTR story has an estranged woman who hates yellow wallpaper, a short bit about a lazy woman who meets ten fairies and of course another five minute mystery.

OTR Story – The Yellow Wallpaper

We have  a very strange, unsettling episode of Suspense. It is based on a short-story written by Charlotte Perkins Gilman and was first published in The New England Magazine, in January of 1892. It is about a woman suffering from depression and is confined by her doctor, who also happens to be her husband. She is left to her bedroom in a rented house, where she starts to believe that the patterns in the wallpaper contain dark, disturbing secrets. The tale is called THE YELLOW WALLPAPER and stars radio hall of famer, AGNES MOOREHEAD. It originally aired on July 29, 1948.

RAS News and 2016 Review

Well another year has passed and we go forth into the unknown once again, which means it’s time for the 2016 review. Who can say what we will face next year, but I am sure that it will at least be interesting. I do know that for Ron’s Amazing Stories it will be a time for more growth, new things and lots and lots of stories. We live, we exist, to tell tales that keep you in suspense, excite you and hopefully chill you just a bit. I am looking forward to this next year and it is my hope that you are are too.

Email Subscribers get a Surprise!

I think that title might be misleading, because I think I actually got the surprise. This past week the website had a major problem and crashed. The issue turned out to be a Level 3 domain DNS server, which is something only my WordPress provider can deal with. After three hours on the phone with them, several more rebuilding the site, the end result was that those people who subscribe to the show via email were lost. Even the backup file was missing. This only affected about 75 listeners total. I want to be clear about this. If you get the show from iTunes, Google Plus, iHeartRadio, Stitcher, Tunein, Soundcloud, Spreaker or any other streaming service or podcast catcher you have nothing to worry about. Only those people who went to the website and signed up for email notifications were affected. How to fix this? Just come back to http://www.ronsamazingstories.com and sign up again. I do apologize for the inconvenience.

Your Stories

It happens every year around this time. The listener stories stop coming in. I know that it is season that causes this and I don’t worry when it happens.  However, I do want to remind you that I want your stories, because they are the backbone of what we do! So take some time, write down your tale or make an appointment with me to get it out there. People want to hear what you have to say! Trust me 90% of the comments I get is on your listeners stories.  To get the ball rolling just head to main site at ronsamazingstories.com and send me a comment.  OR!  If you want ,write me a email and address it to ronsamazingstories@gmail.com. We want to hear from you!

2016 Review and 2017 cometh

As 2016 review comes to an end, this coming year we will see some changes to the show. The format of the show is going to get some much needed updates and I hope to add new hardware to make recording the shows even better. To do that I need you and I need you to tell you friends to listen. Strength and growth come only through continuous effort and struggle. Without continual growth and progress, such words as improvement, achievement, and success have no meaning.  So, please take a minute and tell a friend about the show, maybe write a review or respond to the posts on Facebook or Twitter.  All of this helps the show and makes us GROW!

As always I want to thank you guys for listening to the show. You are why I do this. What makes me happy is when I get thank you notes from people like Ryan Murray or Daniel Dabbs. Or suggestions from people like Jim Goodluck and many others. It means the world to me.  And to you guys on the radio side. Thank you for listening and keeping us on the play list! To all I wish you a Happy New Year and I hope you continue to enjoy Ron’s amazing Stories.
