What can I say about about our old time radio tale? It was made by the same folks in Detroit that brought you the Lone Ranger. They had a knack for presenting stories that takes you into the scene and makes you feel like you’re right there. The series is called Challenge Of The Yukon. Sergeant Preston and King shine in this one as they protect a family from the Wolf Pack.  It first aired on January 27, 1944.

Our OTR Story – Dateline Lisbon

I love history and our OTR story today plays out like it could have been a historical event from World War II.  If I had to compare it to something, I would have to say it is a cross between Casablanca and the Judgment at Nuremberg. It is a war story set in a neutral city where both Allies and Nazis mix. There are some neat twists and turns to the plot and it is an exciting tale, well written and performed.
It is called Dateline Lisbon and It first aired on October 5, 1944.

Website News

I have reached a decision on the Website issue and will be moving Ron’s Amazing Stories to a new home. The good news is that this will not affect the podcast in any way. We will not have a disruption in the service, publishing dates or content. However, those of you that subscribe to the show via Email will no longer get updates (Currently only five Email subscribers remain after the December troubles). I can not say when the email service will be back on online. Also, none of this will take place is until I establish a new home. We will just limp along until then.

RAS #274 – Jayhawkers

pic274msOn Ron’s Amazing Stories this week it is a western round-up staring the Jayhawkers of Kansas. We have a very entertaining tale from Australia called Tennessee Jed Stops A Wagon and follow that up with one of the best Gunsmoke episodes ever made.

Our OTR Story – Jayhawkers

Our old time radio story is about the Kansas Jayhawkers. They were bands of men that were willing to fight, kill, and rob for a variety of motives right after the Civil War. These men caused more trouble than good and it often led to full out skirmishes. Today the term has softened a bit and now refers to someone born, bred and raised in Kansas. Our OTR story comes from a time when they were not so nice and Marshall Dillon is forced to choose between fighting them or helping a cattle herd from Texas make its way to Dodge City.  It is called The Jayhawkers and first aired on the CBS radio network, April 4, 1953.

Topic – Sasquatch

Bigfoot is an ape-human type creature that many believe lives mostly in forests in the Pacific Northwest region of the North American continent. He is also often referred to as Sasquatch. He is often described as a large and hairy, resembling a half-man, half-ape creature in folklore and myths. Many of those who have reported seeing Bigfoot describe him with large eyes, a low-set forehead, large brow-ridge, and having enormous footprints. He is believed to be upwards of 500 pounds and anywhere from 6 to 8 feet tall. He is also reported to be rather smelly, and he is mainly nocturnal.

RAS #273 – Tunnel Under The World

Tunnel Under the WorldAs promised we tunnel under the world to produce another science fiction week here at Ron’s Amazing Stories. On today’s program it is all about Frederik Pohl. We have two short stories by him titled, Tunnel Under the World and Pythias. We also have a reading of his very first published work, that he wrote in 1937. It is a poem called, Elegy to a Dead Planet: Luna. So, please click the link and be dazzled!

Our OTR Story – Tunnel Under the World

On the morning of June 15th, Guy Burckhardt woke up screaming!

That is how our OTR story begins today. It is classic tale which first was published under the title, The Tunnel Under the World, in Galaxy Science Fiction magazine, January of 1955. Its author was none other than Frederik Pohl. One of history’s greatest science fiction authors. The story itself is a Groundhog Day meets The Truman Show meets The Matrix. One thing is for sure is that all of it leads to one mind-bending plot. The tale comes from the series X-Minus One and is called the Tunnel Under the World. It was taken from the Hugo winning short-story by Frederik Pohl.  It first aired on April 14, 1956.
