On Ron’s Amazing Stories this week we turn to the future to tell our stories. We have a sci-fi tale about what lies ahead for our nurseries and the dangers that could hold and, a boy learns just how hard it can be in space. Our OTR story – The Veldt

Ray Bradbury told some truly amazing stories in his day, and this one is no exception. Imagine a nursery, fully automated, that allows its children to create any virtual environment they desire. What we have this week is based on a short-story originally titled, The World the Children Made. Later it would be edited and titled The Veldt, and would be part of Bradbury’s classic short-story collection The Illustrated Man in 1951.  What you will hear is an adaption to radio for X Minus One.

On Ron’s Amazing Stories this week we have a wood carving that travels through time, a stagecoach that travels through Fort Laramie, and Rudyard Kipling tells one of his classic stories called, How the Whale Got his Throat.

Our OTR Story – Stagecoach Stop

I love today’s old time radio story. It speaks to things that are as important today as they were in the 1880’s.  It comes from Fort Laramie, which was a CBS Radio Western series starring Raymond Burr as Captain Lee Quince. It aired Sunday afternoons January through October in 1956. The show producers wanted to be a close to reality as possible. The names used for places, buildings and some of the people were real. Our tale is called “Stagecoach Stop” and it first aired on April 15, 1956.

The podcast this week answers the question, “What about the Five Minute Mysteries?” Also, we have an OTR tale that stars Boris Karloff and a listener’s tale from Mitch in North Carolina. Mitch faces danger in a story I have called Development Hell.

Our OTR Story – Death For Sale

Our story today features Boris Karloff in a story called Death For Sale. It is about a clever insurance scheme which is delayed by a blackmailer and his wife. It comes from the great old time radio series Inner Sanctum.

Our OTR Story – The House in Cypress Canyon

The House in Cypress Canyon, is an episode of the American radio series Suspense. Written by Robert L. Richards, produced and directed by William Spier, It was originally broadcast December 5, 1946. The plot is presented as a “story within a story,” framed by a meeting between detective Sam Spade (played by Howard Duff) and a friend who has discovered the manuscript regarding the mysterious house. After a brief introduction, the narrative shifts to the story presented in the manuscript.

Our OTR Story – The C-Chute

Our story comes from the classic sci fi series X Minus One, which aired on NBC from 1955 until 1958. A small band of humans aboard a spaceship that has been captured by enemy aliens must work out a way to retake the vessel. This one based on a short story written by Isaac Asimov and was first published in Galaxy magazine, in October 1951.  It is called C-Chute and first aired on February 8, 1956.
