Encounter In The Park

This story comes from Sandy Harmon. Sandy didn’t say where she hails from and the story doesn’t give me any clues. But here is sandy’s story:

Thank you for the podcast! I listen each week and marvel at the stuff you come up with. It is so entertaining.  I want to share a story that happened to me in our local park.

I was walking in a local park when I got this feeling that I was being followed. I turned around and there was no one there and just to be on the safe side I took a second look. I kept on walking and coming from the other direction I saw a man walking his dog. This made me feel a little better since now I wasn’t really alone but I still had the feeling that I was being watched. As I walked by the man he stopped me and asked if I had seen anyone in the area. I responded that I hadn’t, but asked him why he was asking. He told me that he had this strange sensation that he was being watched. I told him my story and we both laughed about it. We continued to talk, when another lady came up to us and said that she could not help but overhear us and that she too had felt like someone had been following her and watching. This was too strange.  We all chatted a bit longer, thought that we must be crazy, laughed about that, then went our separate ways.

That night I had a dream about walking in that very same park. I remember in my dream that I was looking around and a bum walking up to me and asking for some food. I told him that I was out walking and then I didn’t have anything for him this time. That was the dream, and the odd thing is that it felt so very real. The next morning I was listening to the radio and one of the stories that they were reporting was that the night before a transient man had been found dead in that park. He had died of natural causes and authorities were having trouble identifying him.

Ron, that is my story.  It’s true and it probably doesn’t mean anything but I don’t know. – Sandy Harmon.

Well thank you for your story Sandy, that is a head scratcher for sure. I have to say I doubt it was a coincidence that all three of you felt the same way at the same time, but it could happen I guess. I will lead more towards what I think you were getting at. The man was left wondering a bit. I do hope he found his way to the light.

RAS #542 – The Eyes Have It

On Ron’s Amazing Stories we have a lot of stuff. In fact there are eight segments worth. We have three brand new ghost stories from you guys that include a visit from grandpa, and two shadow creatures. Then we have a new segment called, How Do I do That.?  In this first one we talk about how I go about restoring old time radio shows. We head to the great Northwest for an episode of Challenge Of The Yukon. King spots a murder and then must track down the killer. We end the show with a Philip K Dick classic titled The Eye’s Have It. So if you haven’t already …press that play button.

Featured Story – The Eyes Have It

Our featured story was written by Philip K. Dick.  We have had stories by this author dating back to Episode 62 when we first heard the short story, Beyond Lies the Wub (A true classic). This time our tale is titled The Eye’s Have It. It was first published in the magazine Science Fiction Stories in March, 1953. In this short Phillip takes a humorous look at writers and their perceptions. Ask yourself this: What if we took everything that was said literally? Well, what you would have would sound like this story.

Other Stories Include – The Fortune Teller, Pete Townshend: Somebody Saved Me,  Grandpa, Is That You?, But I saw It, Shadows Everywhere, How Do I Do That – Saved Recordings, King Spots Murder, and The Eye’s Have It.

Unknown Eyes

Our story for this week was sent in by friend to the podcast Cody Apedaile. He and his wife have contributed several times to the show and have been what I like to call friends. Here is a story that Cody sent in for episode #442.

I worked as an electrician for a little bit. Since I was just starting, I got to apprentice under a journeyman. We will call him Joe for this story.

Joe and I, got to do some retrofitting for an old courthouse. They were upgrading their heating and cooling. Our job was to get power from the main panel in the basement to a new panel on the second floor. The basement was cramped and full of old, useless equipment, and contained the small portal that led into the crawl space. The portal was lined with pipes that left very little room for someone to crawl through. I, being of a thinner build, got to be the one to shimmy through the tight portal into the crawl space.

The crawl space was the awkward height of being too short to stand, but it was not necessary to crawl either. The walls in the crawl space were concrete, making cave darkness a thing. With my headlamp on, I delved into the depths of the crawl space to go around to the section where we needed to feed the conduit through the wall and up through the floor. I took the measurements that we needed and yelled them through the fist sized hole to Joe on the other side. To save the battery of my slowly dying headlamp, I would sit in the almost complete darkness until Joe asked for the next measurement. After we were both satisfied, I crawled back into the depths of the black.

As I rounded the first corner I froze as my headlamp caught two red pin pricks at the far side of the building. The next instant they were gone.  I held my gaze to that spot as I cautiously made my way to the center of the portal that held the path to the exit. As I exited feet first to the main basement, I swore I saw those eyes peering around the corner at me.  To say that I was relieved to be on vacation when the conduit in the crawl space was installed is an understatement

RAS #541 – Lt. Levinson Kidnapped

On Ron’s Amazing Stories we have a pretty darn good detective story starring Dick Powell as Richard Diamond. We also have a ghost story about a school master who wasn’t there. Pretty Spooky. Then we end the show with a brand new Johnny Is It True – Movie Trivia Edition. If that sounds amazing then press that play button.

Featured Story – Lt. Levinson Kidnapped

Our featured story is a classic detective drama from the series, Richard Diamond, Private Detective. Diamond was a slick, sophisticated detective, with a sharp tongue, and would often get knocked on the head with a revolver butt or other items. His counterpart on the police force was Lt. Levinson who often accepted Diamond’s help reluctantly. Although they always seem at odds with each other, Diamond and Levinson were best friends. Our story today takes a closer look at this relationship. It is titled, simply enough, Lt. Levinson Kidnapped. What we will hear first aired October, 18, 1950.

Other Stories Include – The Diamond Heist, Forward: Stories of Tomorrow, The Old School Master, Lt. Levinson Kidnapped, and Johnny Is It True – Movie Edition.

Piano Girl

Our story today comes from Kim. That is all I know about her except that her story is amazing. I tried to track Kim down so that I could give her proper credit, but I was never able to do so. This story aired very early on in the podcast history and was used in a As Read By segment

I’ve never lived in a haunted house, but my mother did as a teen. Other houses on her street had strange things going on too. A few homes away from her lived a man and his family. One night, one of his daughters went to bed with a bad headache. The next day she had passed away from an aneurysm.

After the funeral, the family went away to get their minds off the tragedy, and they asked my uncle to check on their pets. My mom and dad (they were dating then) went with my uncle to take care of the house. My mother had heard there was a grand piano there and she wanted to play it. My dad was studying to be a veterinarian so he thought he could be useful.

After entering the house, my uncle and my father headed to the basement to care for the animals. My mother went straight to the piano on the ground floor. She was playing it when she felt something brush her ankles. She thought a cat must have left the basement and walked past her. She kept playing, and she felt it again. She looked under the piano and saw nothing. When she started again, she felt hands clasp her legs tightly. She pulled away, dashed to the basement door, called my uncle and father, and waited for them. When they all walked outside, my uncle could tell my mom was rattled and asked what was wrong. She told him what had happened, and he turned white.

Later after the group got home my uncle told them that he knew the family very well. The daughter who passed away liked to  play a game with her father. When he would sit down to play the piano, she would crawl underneath, grab his ankles, and push his feet up and down on the pedals.

This email was simply signed Kim.
