RAS #550 – Delayed Action

On Ron’s Amazing Stories we are full of time, or rather we have a story about time. It is both a paradox and a mind bender. We also have a unique story from Pastor Jason and I hope you are ready to stomach it. If you are a Sherlock Holmes fan you are about to have your mind blown. Could Moriarty actually be a good guy? Press that play button and find out.

Featured Story – Delayed Action

Our featured story comes from the September 1953 issue of Galaxy Science Fiction. It was written by Charles V. de Vet. It is a strange tale titled Delayed Action and it is a real mindbender. You have to pay attention to follow the logic. This planet gave Don Johnson the perfect chance to commit the perfect crime—only he couldn’t remember just what it was he had committed. This one was suggested and read for us by narrator Paul Hampton.

Other Stories Include – The Jules Buck Murder, Moriarty: The Devils Game, Pastor Jason And His Tummy, and Delayed Action

Tractor Ghost

Our story comes from Minnie Swan. She writes to us from Michigan and her story truly is amazing! Have you ever seen the horror film Christine? Well, here is the farm version of it …. sort of.

Hello Ron, we have a saying here, “You know you’re from Michigan when your idea of a traffic jam is waiting for ten cars to pass a tractor.” My story is about just such an event and I can’t wait to tell you all about it.

I was 13 years old and was going to a dune buggy race with my dad at Silver Lake Dunes. He raced in an annual event there. We came up to a traffic jam. Get It Traffic Jam. It was going amazingingly slow as each car passed the tractor. Everyone seemed very interested in what was going on with it. Finally, when it came time for us to pass my dad let out a shocked gasp, he pointed at the drivers cab and there was no one there. The tractor was driving itself.

We have another saying in Michigan, “Why build a straight road when you can put curves in it.” I don’t know if that is a real statement, but if you live here you know it’s true! This road we were on was quite the example. Somehow this tractor was following the road. Very slow, but doing it.

My Dad drove ahead and found a place to park our rig and set to wait for the tractor to show up. My dad’s plan was to get in the tractor and bring it to stop. Others pulled over to watch the show as well. The problem was that the tractor never came around the corner. My dad bought a motorcycle along with us and he took it off the trailer to go find out what had happened. He came back a few minutes later, and said he could find no sign of the thing nor had it run off the road.  Others tried and failed to find that tractor.

I offer no explanation for this, nor can I prove any of it. It was the late 80’s and I don’t think they had the tech to make a self driving tractor in those days. – Minnie Swan – Michigan

What a crazy story and one I say has to be true. It is a head scratcher for sure and I can’t imagine making it up.  Thank you Minnie for your story. It truly belongs on Ron’s Amazing Stories!

I have a pre-podcast assignment for you. Do a bit of research on what a Mobius Strip is. It will help unwind this one. Replay – The Boy In The Basement

On Ron’s Amazing Stories this week we pretty much dedicate the entire show to one story, The Boy In The Basement. It was written by Sylvia Shults and is in fact her true encounter with Christopher, who just happens to be a spirit. This is a rare look at the behind the scenes of ghost hunting and even more amazing her ongoing relationship with Chris. Something that almost never happens. Also, on the show we have a brand new story from you guys, and of course all of the other stuff you have come to enjoy on the show. So press that play button and please come join us.

Featured Story – The Boy In The Basement

Ghost Stories With Sylvia

This story is featured in the book Fractured Souls: More Hauntings at the Peoria State Hospital. The book was written by our very own Sylvia Shults. The Peoria State Hospital was once the finest facility in the world for the care of the mentally ill. The asylum closed its doors in 1973, but the hilltop remains active to this day. Instead of the conversations of patients and the squeak of nurses’ shoes, the halls now echo with the beeps of K2 meters and the hiss of spirit boxes. It’s still a busy place, and for the spirits of many of its patients, it is still home.

Other Stories Include – Case of Announcer’s Delight, Lincoln on the Verge: Thirteen Days to Washington, The overprotective Ghost, and The Boy In The Basement

Program Note: This is a replay from September 16, 2021. I am taking the week off from podcasting and polled 100 listeners on which episode they would like to hear. With 65 votes this was the clear favorite and I have to say it is one of mine too.

About Sylvia Shults:  Sylvia  is a Librarian, Author, and Ghost Hunter. She has spent a lifetime in the pursuit of the weird and strange. Her non-fiction works include Ghost of the Illinois River, Fractured Spirits, Fractured Souls, 44 Years in Darkness, Hunting Demons, The Spirits of Christmas, and her latest release Days Of The Dead. All of her books are available on Amazon and you can find out more at her WordPress Home Page.

Happy July 4th, I hope that you and your families had a fun weekend. I have decided to take this week off from podcasting and all work related activities. RAS #549 – The Submarine Caves

On Ron’s Amazing Stories we have three great stories from the listeners that feature a residual haunting, A ghost named Gary, and one from Essex, England. Our featured story is a good one from the case files of Sherlock Holmes. Then we end the show with something Ron calls, The Tootsie Roll Incident.

Featured Story – The Submarine Cave

Sherlock Holmes

Our featured story comes from Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes. It is from the OTR series The New Adventures of Sherlock Holmes starring Basil Rathbone. Sherlock finds himself at odds with butter (Yes, I said butter). The story is titled The Submarine Caves which is odd because there are no submarines in the story. Confused? You won’t be after you hear this one. It first aired on March 4, 1946.

Other Stories Include – Murder In Tibet, Have Space Suit – Will Travel, Night Knockers, Gary The Ghost, It Did What to Spiderman, The Submarine Caves, and The Tootsie Roll Incident
