RAS #617 – Cold Equations

Ron’s Amazing Stories is a captivating podcast that combines the love for audiobooks, storytelling, and listener submissions. In this episode, Ron shares his passion for mystery fiction, recommends a thrilling science fiction audiobook, and features listener-submitted adventure stories.

One of the highlights of the episode is Ron’s recommendation of The Downloaded by Robert J. Sawyer. Set in the year 2059, this science fiction audiobook takes listeners on a journey where survivors of a global cataclysm face the imminent threat of an asteroid collision. Ronald’s enthusiasm for this book is evident as he describes the immersive experience created by the narration and the innovative use of Dolby Atmos technology.

The podcast also showcases the power of storytelling through listener submissions. Ron shares a chilling tale of a doppelganger encounter, which was submitted by a dedicated listener. This segment allows the audience to become active participants in the podcast, fostering a sense of community and engagement.

Featured Story – Cold Equations

Cold Equations

Our featured story is a fascinating bit of science fiction. If you are familiar with the first space flights of the 1950’s you know just how important fuel conservation was. You were allowed so many burn-cycles before the mission was a failure. But what if the mission only allowed for failure? What if there was only enough fuel for one outcome and hundreds of lives depended on it? That is the premise of the tale Cold Equations. It first aired on X-Minus One in August of 1955.

Other Stories Include – Blood On My Hands, Review – The Downloaded, Why are you just standing there, That’s My Name, Cold Equations, and Johnny Is It True – Santiago

Ghost In The Pool

We are back with These Are Your Stories blog edition. I took a break for the month of spooky and that got extended, so here we are. I love stories like the one we have this week. It comes from the wild state of Nevada and was sent in by Samantha Grim. She has titled it Ghost In The Pool.

Ghost In The Pool

First off, I didn’t see it in the pool. It was afterwards. After my sister accidentally kicked me in the eye while in the pool. I decided to pull a prank on her and pretend she gave me a bruised eye. So, I grabbed my mother’s makeup palette and did the best I could to fake a black eye, and it seemed believable. I walked upstairs to the loft where my sister and her friends were hanging out and I showed her my eye. She obviously freaked out. I made her apologize before she wiped my eye and realized it was makeup. She punched me and we had a good laugh.

I went downstairs to the bathroom to wash it off. As I was bent over to wash my eye, in my peripheral vision I saw a small frail boy, wearing a striped shirt and boarding shorts. He had a bowl cut and was glaring at me with distorted facial features. Knowing there were no children as young as he at this party, I immediately stood up straight and looked towards him. He was gone. I backed up into the corner of the bathroom and looked around the room, my heart beating out of my chest. I ran out of the room and told my sister.

After a few months had passed, I had completely forgotten about that event, and so had my sister. One evening I went into my parents room to get a shirt I had left in there from the previous night. My parents room and the bathroom are connected by a pair of double doors with frosted glass, just like most of the doors in our house. I found my shirt and was on my way out when I noticed two small handprints on one of the frosted glass panes. I stopped to have a better look at it, each handprint was as small as the palms of my hands. I felt shocked, but then I got shivers on every inch of my body as I remembered what happened after the pool party not too long ago. My heart sank and I ran to the kitchen, grabbing some cleaning supplies and desperately tried wiping it off. But it didn’t come off at all and even made it somewhat clearer. I decided to ignore it , but it is currently still there. It creeps me out whenever I go into my parents room or especially the bathroom. – Samantha Grim (Las Vegas)
