On this episode of Ron’s Amazing Stories, Ron will be reviewing the audiobook Killing Floor by Lee Child. This is the first book in the Jack Reacher series of novels. After the review, Ron will be sharing a listener story from Thailand about a moldy green woman. The featured story for this episode comes from the pages of the 1950’s pulp magazine Orbit. It tells the story of a reporter who has an encounter with a traveler in time. This is sure to be an amazing episode, so press that play button and enjoy the show.
Featured Story – A Traveler In Time
Our featured story was written by August Derleth who was a writer and the first publisher of the writings of H. P. Lovecraft. So, I’ll bet you are thinking that you are in for a horror story. Our story today follows more of a HG Wells feel than H.P. Lovecraft’s horror. It tells the story of a reporter and his encounter with time travel. It is a strange story, full of twists and turns. It is titled A Traveler In Time and first appeared in the pulp magazine Orbit in 1953.
“YOU CAN’T ALWAYS ESCAPE EVILS BY RUNNING AWAY FROM THEM…BUT IT MAY HELP!”

This story comes from Toni with an I and that is all I know about her. I did play around with Toni’s IP address and can confirm that she lives in … Wait for it.. Somewhere in the United States. How about that? She did title her story The Ghost Of The Abandoned Railway. These are the types of stories that really freak me out.
Some time ago I was out hiking with my friends. The trail ended near an abandoned railway track. It was around 9 pm. Now you might be asking why we would be hiking so late? That is a very good question.
We were walking down the railway and when we got to a crossing that was also abandoned and quite creepy I might add. We heard something in the bushes. I shone my flashlight on the area but nothing was there. Then out of nowhere there came a freaking scream! It was high pitched like a woman’s scream and quite melodic. We all turned to look in that direction. What I saw I will never forget. Standing there in the dark was a human-like figure. It was all white with long hair and It had black holes for eyes. It just came from behind a tree and it then disappeared as quickly as it came. The tree was a small sapling so nothing could hide behind it. Well, we all freaked out and ran towards the crossing shack. We hid there for a while, but nothing else happened.
The next day I did some research and it turns out a woman died on that crossing just before that track was closed for good. I am not sure what it was but we all saw the same thing. – Toni (with an I)
Well Toni I I am not sure what I would have done. I might not have run to the crossing shack, but would have just kept on running. I too wonder why you were hiking at 9pm! Thank you for your story.

On Ron’s Amazing Stories we have an odd set of stories from different genres. Ron reviews an audiobook from Zane Grey titled Riders of the Purple Sage (a classic western). Then we head to space for a science fiction adventure from the pages of the 1960s pulp mags. The story is titled Flamedown and is exciting! We end the show with our featured story from the OTR classic series Escape. In this one, one man’s greed leads to murder and in the end justice. It is titled The Heart Of Kali. So pres that play button and enjoy the show.
Featured Story – The Heart Of Kali
Our featured story comes from the OTR series Escape. Escape brings together everything that was good about old-time radio. The title itself almost sums up the very essence of what radio drama is all about. It was truly one of the best anthology series of the golden age of radio. Our story today is special in another way. All good things do come to end, eventually, and such was true of Escape. This story was the very last episode to air. It happened on September 5, 1954. It tells the story of a man whose passion gets the best of him, and as the saying goes, what goes around comes around. It is titled The Heart Of Kali.
Other Stories Include – Man In The Back Seat, Review – Riders Of The Purple Sage, Flame Down, and The Heart Of Kali

Our Story comes from Joseph Brandbury of Essex, England. Joes sent this one in via the story submission page and also has posted it on Reddit. He has titled it, It Did What To… Spiderman.
Hello I’m Joe I’m 20 now, but at the time the events of this story happened I was around 10 (also ignore my crappy grammar). It was the winter of 2013 just before Christmas (maybe 2-3 weeks before) my sister Elly started noticing stuff moving but she thought – No biggie we have 3 cats that roam about at night. but it got weirder, she started seeing orbs flying around her room and objects were being moved to places cats could not move them to. So my mum, who knows about these things, managed to move these ghosts out of her room and we all thought it was over…. until it affected me.
It was kind of the same thing that happened to Elly but even worse because it moved my teddy bears while they were in my hand. I thought that it was my other sister Antonia. We all thought she was just trying to scare us. Then at night my TV started turning on by itself and tilting sideways, this repeated for around 3-4 days. Then it happened! While I was trying to sleep I noticed all my spider man posters started turning by themselves. My thought was,”I don’t wanna die like every teen in a horror movie does.” so I screamed as loud as I could and ran to my parents room. The whole family woke up. When we went back to my room all the posters were stuck on the wall by only 1 blue tack. The next day I burned them all and got new ones. This all continued and like before my Mum took care of it. Now we are all still waiting for it to happen again. – Joseph Brandbury
Okay that is just scary. Also, I’m sure even Spiderman didn’t think much of it. This sounds like poltergeist activity. Was there any emotional stuff going on with your family at the time? Just a thought. Thank you Joe for sharing your story.
