RAS #541 – Lt. Levinson Kidnapped

On Ron’s Amazing Stories we have a pretty darn good detective story starring Dick Powell as Richard Diamond. We also have a ghost story about a school master who wasn’t there. Pretty Spooky. Then we end the show with a brand new Johnny Is It True – Movie Trivia Edition. If that sounds amazing then press that play button.

Featured Story – Lt. Levinson Kidnapped

Our featured story is a classic detective drama from the series, Richard Diamond, Private Detective. Diamond was a slick, sophisticated detective, with a sharp tongue, and would often get knocked on the head with a revolver butt or other items. His counterpart on the police force was Lt. Levinson who often accepted Diamond’s help reluctantly. Although they always seem at odds with each other, Diamond and Levinson were best friends. Our story today takes a closer look at this relationship. It is titled, simply enough, Lt. Levinson Kidnapped. What we will hear first aired October, 18, 1950.

Other Stories Include – The Diamond Heist, Forward: Stories of Tomorrow, The Old School Master, Lt. Levinson Kidnapped, and Johnny Is It True – Movie Edition.

RAS #540 – The Untouchable

On Ron’s Amazing Stories we have shadow encounters sent in by you guys. A shadow with a hole, one with no face, and even one that can stab you. Then I read a story suggested by RedBill792 about an object so amazing it’s untouchable. We move on and visit the years 1950, 1880, and then back to the 50’s all in an instant. How is that even possible? Just press that play button and see.

Featured Story – The Untouchable

For our featured story we have a science fiction classic sent to me by RedBill792. He said that he loved it and wanted me to read it on the air. After checking it out I thought, “why not?”, and gave it a shot. It comes from the December 1960 issue of Analog Magazine. Do you know who King Tantalus is?  Hang around after the story and Ron will tell you.  It is titled The Untouchable and was written by Stephen A. Kallis, Jr.

You can see it—you can watch it—but you mustn’t touch it! And what could possibly be more frustrating when you need, most violently, to get your hands on it for just one second.

Other Stories Include – Murder on Diamond Row, Project Hail Mary, The Whole Shadow, The Man With No Face, Shadows Can Stab, The Untouchable, A Day In 1880, and Not So Important Times In History – 100% Mortality.

RAS #538 – Broken Arrow

Well, this was an interesting week at Ron’s Amazing Stories. Not only did it snow in the Pacific Northwest, which never happens in April, it caused power outages and brought not one but two trees down in my backyard. Quite the week. So, as you might imagine, it was hard to get the show done. The good news is that we do have a story for you. If you want to know more about what happened head to the website and you can read my story

Featured Story – Broken Arrow

Our featured story comes from the Screen Directors Playhouse. It broadcast adaptations of feature films with the original directors involved in the productions. Beginning in 1955 the series moved to television focusing on original teleplays and adaptations of famous short stories. What we will hear today was adapted to radio from a Jimmy Stewart western.

Broken Arrow was released in 1950 and was directed by Delmer Daves. It starred James Stewart, Jeff Chandler, and Debra Paget. The film is based on historical figures but fictionalizes their story. It was nominated for three Academy Awards and won a Golden Globe Award for Best Film Promoting International Understanding. Film historians have said that the movie was one of the first major Westerns to portray our native Americans sympathetically. Broken Arrow first aired on September 7, 1951.

RAS #537 – First Contact

Ron’s Amazing Stories is a real hodgepodge of stories this week. The word fits perfectly! We have a confusing mixture. We begin with a UFO story that makes no sense, followed by a spirited ghost pirate who wants to party. Then we take a trip around the world in 72 days, 6 hours, 11 minutes, and 14 seconds. Our Featured story is “out there” and is titled First Contact. We end the show with a quick edition of Johnny Is It True – Documented or Not. So, prepare to be amazed.

Featured Story – First Contact

Our featured story comes from the science fiction OTR series Dimension X. The story presents a problem that I think could happen with any alien First Contact. What is first contact?  Simply put, it is the first meeting between peoples of two previously unknown cultures. How could this go down? Would it be peaceful? That is what our story addresses. It is titled, appropriately enough, First Contact and it originally aired on September 9th, 1951.

Other Stories Include – The Return Of Mr. Lawrence, The Day the Earth Stood Still, UFO Coincidence, Night Of Fright, Around The World In 72 Days, First Contact, and Johnny Is It True – Documented or Not

Program Notes:  Here are some photos of Nellie Bly’s trip around the world in 72 days. Nellie’s departure photo, and Cartoon Drawing
