RAS #528 – The Cave Of Night

On Ron’s Amazing Stories this time we feature a science fiction biased show. We have a detective story from a distant space colony and a UAP adventure from Texas that I found riveting! Then we head back out into space with a story about a lost astronaut. We end the show with a brand new Johnny Is It True that is all about Area 51. So please press that play button and enjoy the show.

Featured Story – The Cave Of Night
Our featured story comes from the OTR series X-Minus one and is not like anything they ever did. It is a science fiction story but is also a tale of suspense and intrigue told from the point of view of a modern-day reporter. It comes with a twist I guarantee you won’t see coming. This is a lost episode that is both unique, riveting and is titled The Cave Of Night. It first aired on February 10, 1956.

Other Stories Include – Blood On My Hands, Lost Planet Homicide, Never Drive Alone On Interstate 40, The Cave Of Night, and Johnny Is True – Area 51.

UFO Over Hawaii

Our story comes from Kihei, Hawaii. It was sent in by Kahale Mahelona and this was our first story from the islands. It appeared in Episode #339 – Backyard UFO and I received a number of emails from folks that confirmed this UFO sighting.

Hello Ron. I am a UFO junkie and if I had one wish for your show it would be that more people sent in their stories about UFOs. Since I was a child I have wanted to see one and finally, it happened. I am both excited by it and bewildered. While not too exciting, it is true.

It was around 12:15 AM. I was scanning the night sky in the direction of Kaupo. I do this often because my theory is that if you’re not watching then you are missing. I noticed an unusually bright light and was pretty high in the sky. It was brighter than any star or planet, too bright to be a satellite, not in the typical flight pattern of an airplane, and too high to be a helicopter or drone. I decided to watch it for a while to see what would happen.

After about 5 minutes it split into two lights and then proceeded to fly apart in diagonal trajectories for another 5 minutes. The lights then reversed direction, became one again, and remained that way for the next 10 minutes. I was tired and went to bed, though I had difficulty sleeping. My thoughts were, what are they doing? Why would they separate and then rejoin?

I will be watching that part of the sky whenever I get a chance, hoping I will see them again and hoping to receive more information about why they are here and what they are doing. I would love to hear about other people’s UFO experiences. It feels good to know that we are definitely not alone.

Thank you for the show and mahalo.

Kahale Mahelona – Hawaii

Thank you Kahale for your story. I did some research and there have been a number of sightings similar to yours reported on MUFON and other sites. Also, I think more people must be watching the skies like yourself because UFO reports in Hawaii have been on the increase since 2016. I often wonder why we don’t get more UFO stories on the show. We do have a pretty amazing one on this week’s podcast. Also, on the show, we feature a Sci-Fi story from X-Minus One, and a brand new Johnny Is True on Area 51.

Friendly Fire

Our Story comes from long-time listener David Larsen. He is a regular contributor to the show and was the focus of the haunted doll series we did on The Horror Express. David sent in this story he calls, Friendly Fire.

Friendly Fire

Hey Ron, this isn’t my story exactly but it was one I was told as a child.

Growing up I had an elderly neighbor, his name was Mr. Schade.  For five dollars, the occasional bit of smoked salmon, and as many stories as we had time to go through, I would mow his lawn for him. Oftentimes, I would mow the lawn after lunch and then enjoy stories until my mom would come calling me for dinner which was usually around six or seven. This story is from World War II and is about one of his friends who I will simply call “Mr. C.” and is a story of how his ankle injury had saved his life.

It begins on an LCVP or Landing Craft Vehicle Personnel. They were crammed into these boats like sardines. Mr. C and his mates were landing on the beaches of Normandy on June 6, 1944, and were some of the first few hundred young men to storm the Nazi’s pillboxes. They were terrified but knew that what they did that day needed to happen and would help to topple the Third Reich even if it was only a foothold.  For Mr. C.?  He remembered praying that he would get to come home and that he would get to see his family again.

The doors slammed open and he and his mates had no hesitation. They sprinted towards what looked like certain death. He passed what he called “shapes of young men” who had already fallen to enemy fire. He sprinted past them scared but determined to take the ground they needed to take.

The crack and rattle of shells and small missiles whizzing past unrelenting were all around him. Then more cracks and booms centered in on his position and a searing pain shot through his ankle sending him to the dirt. Mr. C looked up only to see his panicked friend firing on a pillbox. He watched in horror as his friend fell to the ground from the gunfire that surely would have been his fate. He was shot by accident as his friend had panicked and shot him through his ankle saving his life at the price of his own. At this point, Mr. C stopped his story and lifted his pant leg. With a smile, he showed me his fused unmoving ankle and the remainder of the scars he earned that day.

I hope I did his story justice, and I am so thankful to him for everything he did and for telling me this story. Mr. Schade is now 94 and still goes fishing on a regular basis. He has always been like a grandfather to me.

David Larsen, Ogden Utah.

Thank you David for your story, and I thank both Mr. C and Mr. Schade for their service.
