The Music Never Stops

We have a short story with no explanation. It was sent in for us by Bryant Fowler who lives in the great state of New York. He has titled his story, The Music Never Stops.

Hello Ron, never miss the show. So the past few nights I have been hearing music. I can’t tell what kind of music exactly but it sounds like a mixture between jazz and classical. The scariest incident happened a few nights ago when I was out in my living room in the darkness talking to one of my buddies over discord. Just texting, no voice chat. Then I heard the music for the second time that week. I got up, was more curious than scared and went into the dining room. Now I thought originally, “ok, my girlfriend is still in bed. It’s 4AM and maybe she is up? Snapchatting or something? As soon as I went into the dining room it shifted and sounded like it was coming from the room I just left, the exact opposite way of the dining room. I chased it around for a good solid 5 minutes before it just went away. We’re not the type of people to just have radios laying around, we keep one for emergencies only. I still don’t know what to make of this and it still freaks me out today. Do you have any idea of what it was?  For the record it is NOT the neighbors. The closest one to us is a good 500 feet away.

Well Bryant I have no idea what you heard. I did some research on the internet and I found a family in Lockport that said strange sounds, including music and talk radio, have been coming out of their walls and keeping them up at night off and on for about six years. It may sound like an episode of the popular Netflix show “Stranger Things,” but the mysterious sounds they are hearing are real. They captured some of the late night noise on a phone and sent it to a local TV station. The music was faint, but you could hear it. The family called Lockport police, who took two detailed reports about the bizarre problem. In one, the officer noted that he could hear voices and music. Then the officer said he heard a commercial for the Christian radio station AM 1160. The station sent out an engineer to investigate the transmission. He said, ‘I got to be honest with you. I have no idea what is receiving the signal. There is nothing that can explain why you’re actually hearing it.’ The family tore up the wall of their daughter’s bedroom to inspect the electrical grounding, but nothing was found and the phenomenon still continues.

I doubt that helps much, but it might give you a place to start. Thank you for your story.

Ron

RAS #572 – The Dark Mirror

On Ron’s Amazing Stories this time we have some new stuff mixed with the old. We have three listener stories that are tied together in a pretty unique way. I think you are going to be amazed at just how synergistic your stories can be at times. Then we have a 50’s noir story that when published was way ahead of its time. All in all I think you are going to enjoy it. So press that play button and let’s get started.

Program note: I am publishing the podcast a day early this week due to some inclement weather that is said to be coming in. I wanted to be safe rather than sorry.

Featured Story – The Dark Mirror

Our featured story comes from the OTR series Screen Directors Playhouse. After a murder, Lt. Stevenson questions the dead man’s girlfriend. Sensing that she’s keeping a secret, he confronts her at home, where he meets her identical twin sister. Both women appear exactly alike, sometimes even posing as each other. However, when a twin expert analyzes the sisters, he finds that one twin is normal, and the other is psychotic — but which one? The story is titled The Dark Mirror, and it stars Olivia de Havilland playing the role of both sisters. It first aired March 31, 1950.

Other Stories Include: The Collector’s Item, The Sleeping Dragon, I Am The Thing, I Am The Thing Too, Out Of Body At Grandma’s House,  I jumped out of my Skin, and The Dark Mirror.

RAS #571 – Death Of A Spaceman

On Ron’s Amazing Stories this time we have some UFO encounters sent in by listeners Terrell, and Rosalina. Terrell has a strange visitor after seeing a UFO, and Rosa watches a UFO flyby while drinking a very expensive bottle of wine. Then we have a striking story from the pages of the pulp mags about the old spaceman who faces his own mortality. We end the show with a new look at Newton and his discovery of gravity. So sit back, relax and enjoy the show.

Featured Story – Death of a Spaceman

Death Of A Space Man

Our featured story for this time comes from Amazing Stories Magazine March of 1954. I wrestled with this one for quite a while before deciding whether to play it or not. The subject matter is a bit rough. It tells the story of the death of a spaceman from the point of view of that very spaceman. I found it deeply profound and entertaining. It is my hope that you do as well. It is titled Death of a Spaceman and was written by Walter M. Miller, Jr.  It is read for us by Gregg Margarite.

The manner in which a man has lived is often the key to the way he will die. Take old man Donegal, for example. Most of his adult life was spent in digging a hole through space to learn what was on the other side. Would he go out the same way?

Stories Include – Blind Confession, Alien Encounters, The Night to be Feared, Big Balls of Light, Death of a Spaceman, and Château Lafite Rothschild

Can Ghosts Dial A Phone?

When asked his thoughts on science fiction Ray Bradbury had this to say, “I don’t write science fiction,” he said. “Science fiction is a depiction of the real. Fantasy is a depiction of the unreal.” So, from that we can conclude that Ray wrote fantasy, which when you think about it makes a lot of sense. Unlike our story for today which is a real head scratcher. It was sent via the website by Dennis Ducane from Seattle, Washington. I won’t include his entire email, but he did ask the question, “Can ghosts dial a phone?”

Can Ghosts Dial A Phone

One night a friend rushed me out of the house to catch the opening act at a local bar’s music night. After a few drinks I realized my phone wasn’t in my pocket. I checked the table we were sitting at, the bar, the bathrooms, and after no luck. I used my friend’s phone to call mine. After two rings someone answered, gave out a low raspy giggle, and hung up. They didn’t answer again. I eventually gave it up as a lost cause and headed home. When I got home I found my phone laying on my nightstand, right where I left it. – Dennis Ducane

Creepy as all get out Dennis and proves the point that you should never leave your phone at home alone. Thank you for sending this one in and to answer your question. I am not sure if ghosts can dial phones, and I am not sure I want to know.
