The Man With No Face

We have another shadow story from Sue Milddleton who sent this in from Spokane, Washington. Sue has titled it  The Man With No Face. I am not sure why but this story really sent a shiver or two down my spine. I think it might have something to do with a dream I had as a kid that I never quite got over to this day. I hope that you enjoy it.

I posted this story on reddit about a year ago. This happened back in 2017 and I was 11 years old. We were living in an old apartment building in Spokane. It was just me, my mom and little sister. I have always been obsessed with the paranormal, and would spend my time on youtube listening to ghost stories and things like that. It was during the halloween season, so we decided to go to Oktoberfest which is something we do every year. We bought this tablecloth that had a printing of a ouija board on it. I had always wanted one, but my mom was hesitant. Since this wasn’t a real ouija board she said okay. I still planned to try and play with it anyway to see if I could summon anything. But I never got around to it, so we just ended up hanging it in my room.

The Man With No Face

A few months later I decided to get up early and go into the living room to watch cartoons. It was still dark outside, and my mom and sister were asleep. All was well at first, then I saw it. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw a black shadow figure dash from the kitchen into the hallway that led to our bedrooms. I instantly spun around and faced the direction where I saw the figure, of course there was nothing there. I shrugged it off and thought I could have just been seeing things in the dark. Fast forward again about a month later and that’s when things start to go down. My sister and I got home from school.  My mom starts to tell us that strange things were happening in our apartment, such as her thumb randomly going numb for no reason at all, the TV and radio messing up and becoming distorted, and our pet birds freaking out like something else was in the apartment. I wasn’t really scared at first, in fact I was excited. I always dreamed of having a paranormal encounter, and now it was finally happening. But soon I would learn that the paranormal is no laughing matter.

That evening my mom said that she and my sister were going to go and take our dog, Sophie, on a walk. I said I wanted to stay behind to see if anything paranormal would happen, and my mom was ok with it. After that I was left in our apartment alone, and was just sitting there again watching the show Adventure Time on our TV. Suddenly my walkie-talkie that was sitting right by me sprang to life and a man’s voice began talking from the other end. This scared the crap out of me, and I instantly ran outside to meet up with my mom and sister to tell them what happened. She said it could have just been on the same channel as someone else, plus we lived right next to a railroad and sometimes there would be workers up there. But that didn’t make any sense. First off you could clearly see the railroad outside of the living room window, and there was no one out there. And my walkie-talkie had been turned off, so I have no idea how it could have just randomly turned on like that. When we got back the TV was all distorted, and our pet birds were going crazy. That same evening my sister ran out of her room. She said that she saw a faceless man standing in the room, but when we looked in there nothing was there. She was too scared to go back and I started getting a bit spooked as well. My mom was able to convince her everything was fine, and she was finally able to go to sleep.

That night I woke up at 2:00 AM. I was groggy, but I remember looking at the ouija board table cloth and the yes and no were blinking. I was freaked out. Whenever me or my sister would wake up in the night we would go into my moms room and sleep there. My sister had woken up before me because she was already there, so I went and joined them. All three of us were awake, and tried to go back to sleep. But then things got started. We could hear what sounded like footsteps in our house. We also had a huge shelf of movies in the living room, and it sounded like someone was pulling them off the shelf. On top of all this we could hear pots and pans in the kitchen, and my walkie-talkie in the living room with that same man speaking through it. I don’t know what the voice was saying, but I could clearly hear someone talking. This went on for some time, maybe an hour or so.

The next morning everything mostly went back to normal, that was the last time we heard those noises, and nothing else strange really happened. What was weird was despite the noises, nothing seemed to be out of place. None of our movie cases were scattered or anything. But I knew it wasn’t simply a dream because my sister and mom remember it too. Soon after my mom threw the ouija board tablecloth in the trash, and refuses to buy anything else like that to this day.

The Whole Shadow

On the blog we have another of your stories. This time it comes from Freddy Foutaine who lives in North Carolina. We have been getting a large number of shadow stories of late. This bothers me a bit because these really creep me out. Not quite ghosts and yet never solid. What are these creatures? Do they mean harm to us? I am not sure I want to know the answer to those questions. Here is Freddy’s story titled The Whole Shadow.

It all started when I was around seventeen. We had just moved to North Carolina so that my parents could have a fresh start for all of us ( Family issues back then ). The house we had moved into was a beautiful older Victorian style house. It was quite run down, so my parents got an amazing deal on it. Maybe a little too good. It was close to public transport and across the road from a retirement home.

One evening we had a terrible thunderstorm. Heavy rains and hail hit the area, and some of the rooms leaked through. My parents thought just to be safe we will all sleep as a family in the lounge room. Everything started off great. We fell asleep easily but when 2:50ish rocked around I heard our dogs barking and whimpering. I got up to check on them. I went to the back door to see what was frightening them. I was not prepared for what I saw. There was a dark figure on the stairs leading up to the outside deck. Unfortunately back then I was way too brave for my own good. I slowly walked toward the stairs to get a better look at the figure. It took the shape of an elderly man. He just stood there staring at the dogs as I walked up a couple more steps. I tried to tell him that he is not supposed to be here but he didn’t respond. So I aggressively ran towards him yelling something, only to have him turn and face me. What I saw stopped me in my tracks and sent me running back down the stairs. Just below his chest was a gaping hole. It looked like a void of complete darkness, like someone had cut a perfect hole in him. Well, safe to say this scared the life out of me. I remember that he seemed to be trying to speak but no words came out. I reached the bottom of the stairs and turned back to look at him again. He was gone.

At this point I was so scared I ran back up inside to wake my parents. I told them what happened but they kept telling me it was just a dream. I know what I saw and I’ve walked past that old house many times as an adult.  I swear I still get the same chill up my spine and feel as if I’m being watched.

The Old School Master

This story has no explanation. It comes from Doris Powers who live in Ohio. She sent this in via the website and haas titled it The Old School Master.

One night around 10pm my husband and I were sitting in the living room trying to find a movie to watch on Amazon Prime. We have four video surveillance cameras outside. Two that point to the front door at different angles, one for the back yard and one for the side of the house. The monitor screen is kept in the living room on a table next to the recliner that I was sitting in. I had just sat down when I heard a child’s voice come over the monitor, “hellooooooo”

I thought to myself for a minute. Does my son have his bedroom window open and is he yelling through it for some reason? Then I remembered.. no it can’t be. He was sleeping in my bed. I called up to him and he answered. I looked back at the monitor screen and I saw this man, who appeared to be very tall. He was wearing a red and white flannel shirt. He was holding a little girl’s hand, she looked like she had striped long sleeves with frizzy white hair. They were walking up the steps to get to our front door, so I turned to my husband and said “somebody is here!”

Now I need to point out here that we live in the middle of absolute nowhere by a swamp. My closest neighbors are bears and coyotes and a couple Amish houses about a mile or so down the road. So, there are never-ever any people walking down our street at night on this rural back road. So it seemed very strange to us. Just as the man and the girl get to our front door, my husband opens it and they’re gone. Not a single trace or sign of them. My husband went outside to see if he could see any cars, but there was nothing. We thought maybe they were having car trouble and stopped for help but there were no signs of that. I got our dog, grabbed a flashlight, and went outside, but nothing was there. We searched for quite a while.

My husband suggested that we go back over the camera footage. However, nothing was recorded on any of them. We both saw them, so we know it happened. My husband didn’t believe in ghosts. However, after seeing that he has changed his mind. We have lived in this house for four years and have never experienced anything like it .

My husband admitted that one night while I was working late he saw something moving in the yard and thought it was an animal. When he went out to look, our son’s tire swing was swinging back and forth like crazy. Another thing, quite recently our son doesn’t like to sleep in his bed because it sounds like something is crawling around under it.

The original part of the house was built in the 1800s and was used as a school house. An addition was put onto the house 20 years ago to make it bigger. The old school master’s house used to be across the street. It had fallen into disrepair so we had it demolished. These events happened the day after the final work was completed.

What happened is really weird, and we’ve come to terms with it, probably a ghost sighting. Perhaps the old school master is moving on.  I know I’m not crazy because we saw them and heard them too. I’ve not seen any ghosts in my lifetime. I just wondered what took so long for me to see one here. What bothers me is that it seemed like they wanted to get my attention and that makes me feel very uneasy. So. Weird.

Update: Our son still hasn’t been sleeping in his room. He tells me he sees things and I believe him 100%. We are turning what used to be his playroom into a new bedroom. I wanted to see what he was experiencing so I went and tried to sleep in his room and every single night I would have a nightmare. So We said he can sleep in our room until his new room is ready, which will hopefully be in a couple days. – Doris Powers
