A Scary Figure At Night!

Our story for the blog this time is chilling. It comes to us from Yash Devi who currently lives in New York. The story first appeared on Reddit and was sent to us via email. Yash asked me to edit it and has titled his story Scary Figure At Night!

A Scary Figure At Night

During college I used to live alone in a bachelor unit in Mumbai, India. During exams I would study late and would often go down to the street between 2-4 am for a coffee. There was a guy on a bike who sold coffee and Dakluh. One night, nothing out of the ordinary, I went down to this coffee seller. The whole neighborhood was peaceful as usual.

I came out of my building compound and to the right was a huge garbage dumpster. It was early in the day and I was a bit sleepy but I didn’t see anyone in the area. I was walking along the road and to the right there were two mid size cargo trucks. As I passed the first truck I saw a shadow of a woman draped in white cloth standing in between them. From where she was there was no way I would have missed her while I was coming out of the building. It was as if this thing had appeared from thin air. The lane was dimly lit but there was enough light to see facial features (i.e nose, eyes etc) but her face was completely blank. I stared at her for a few seconds. She was unmoving but then her head slowly turned right towards me. I felt a chill go through my body. I don’t know how I knew, but I knew I was in trouble.  As any normal person would do I ran away from there as fast as I could. If Usain Bolt would be next to me, I am sure I would have beaten him. I didn’t stop until I was completely out of the area. When I got to where the coffee seller was, he was missing that night. I returned back home and I never ever went for the late night refreshments ever again.

I have always been a skeptic and never believed in the paranormal, but that is all different now. One more thing. I am absolutely certain no woman would risk standing in a city in India, at night, in any neighborhood considering the high crime rate against women. A few weeks passed and I was telling a friend about what had happened. He got a shocked look on his face and told me that he had a similar incident and saw that same figure standing motionless on the street in the very same area. I’m not sure what to call it, but I darn sure that was no woman I saw that night! – Yash Devi

This Week’s Podcast: While searching for the story this week I ran into an obscure little website where the owner had a collection of science fiction stories that was quite unique. As I was going through the list I saw an episode of Dimension X that I have never heard of.  I was shocked and pleasantly surprised by the quality and how good the story was. So, that is our featured tale this week. It is titled The Lost Race. It tells of a master race of aliens afraid to become human. The Hand Under The Bed

This story originally appeared on Reddit in 2017.  It was sent to me by FearFierst last year. He didn’t say where he hails from or even if this happened to him. He has titled this story The Hand Under The Bed.

Back in 2003, I was 8 years old. Our family had just moved to a new country and it was our first night in the apartment my step-father had rented for us. Due to jet lag, and having already slept on the plane, I was wide awake. It was past midnight and I was in bed.

The Hand Under The Bed

For you to understand this story better I’ll have to explain what my room was like. My bed was at the end of the room below the windows. On the other side of the room was the bedroom door. Next to that there was a walk-in closet. Both doors of the closet had mirrors on them. They were pretty big. I’d say they covered 75% of the doors. This meant I could see my own reflection when I was on my bed.

As I laid there, waiting to fall asleep, I felt something like a big hand violently grab my leg and pull me out of bed. As soon as this happened I began screaming and held onto the headboard so as not to get completely pulled away. As this was going on my brother, who was also awake, came running. He tried opening my bedroom door but couldn’t get in. In our house there is a rule – NEVER lock any door. So, it was unlocked, but for some reason he just couldn’t open it. He yelled out to my mother and father. While they were getting up I was still struggling and holding onto the headboard. I looked back to the mirror and I saw the reflection of myself on the closet doors. There was a huge black arm coming from under my bed grabbing my leg and pulling me. As soon as I saw it I screamed even louder.

When my parents finally reached the door to my room, they were able to open it. As the door opened the hand let go and slid under the bed. They turned on the lights and asked me what was going on. I told them what went down, but obviously it was swept aside as a bad dream. Even though I was wide awake.

After this I grabbed my mattress and put it on the floor. I was not going to sleep on beds that had spaces under them ever again. One last thing. My brother believed me because I showed him the bed frame. There were 3 scratch marks on the side where the arm had come out. Mind you, the bed was new. My dad had them set up the night we arrived.  – FearFierst

Okay this story is quite terrifying. It appears that ghosts and shadows can actually earn their reputation of being downright scary. Thank you for sharing your story with us. Truly one of a kind. Fearfiest has made the drawing of his encounter that is attached to this post.
