The News – February 2019

In news, this time Ron’s Amazing Stories listenership is up 25%  for the month of January 2019. This is a huge upgrade and it has to be because of you. Please keep telling your friends about the show and leaving reviews wherever you listen. It is because of your support that numbers are getting better.

I like to do to check how we’re doing by googling Ron’s Amazing Stories. The other day I found that the podcast is heard on the service podbay.fm. I had never heard of this application before and was surprised to find the podcast there. Even more shocking were the forty-plus reviews of the show. Most were positive and of the five-star variety. This was a pleasant surprise and I thank all of you that listen on Podbay.

Gladdy's GoodiesUpdate on the dial-in service for sharing your stories. This has proved to be more difficult than I thought to get going. It appears that the company I want to use does not play nice with WordPress. Using it would mean adding yet another internet location to maintain. We want one-stop shopping for the podcast, and adding another site is not an option. However, we haven’t given up on this project just yet.

I am planning on a show with only UFO stories from you guys. If you have any stories that fit the bill please contact Ron. You can use the contact or story submission system to turn them in. There is no set date for this show yet, but don’t delay we really want to hear from you.

-Ron

RAS #365 – Shipwreck In The Sky

On Ron’s Amazing Stories this time we have a shipwreck in space, UFOS in the mists, and a pig in the trunk. Add in a visit to 1944, a haunted home, and you’ll see why we love our stories. This one is so full of good stuff it might not be legal. You decide.

Featured Story – Shipwreck In The Sky

Our featured story this week appears to be a bit a bit dated until you realize it was first published in Fantastic Universe in the March 1954 issue. Shipwreck in the Sky was written by Eando Binder. It tells the tale of Captain Dan Barstow who is a young eager astronaut first trip into space.

Do You Like Science Fiction?

You may have noticed the increase of science fiction stories on the podcast. When I made the decision to limit the amount of OTR (old time radio) played I had to look to other sources for stories. What I found was a huge store of classic science fiction available in the public domain. Most of which has been read by volunteers for LibriVox.org.

Do You Like Science Fiction?I love these stories. Not only are they good fun to hear, but they reach out from our past to remind us just how far we have come with our own technology. What I find more often than not is that the writers of that time predicted pretty well what we would have today. Yes, they had us owning the stars by 1990, but the science was sound and gadgets were dead on. Even the idea of the internet was predicted with unbelievable accuracy.

My question is this? Do you like hearing these stories? Do you want to hear more from the pulp magazines of the 50s and 60s? The number of horror stories, westerns, and other genres has about the same amount of titles. The problem with these is they are quite dated and the language used is difficult to read let alone follow. For these types of you really need the flair of OTR to make them interesting.

So my question stands, Do you like Science Fiction? Do you want more of them? Or are want some of those classic horror stories thrown in? Please let me know what you think. My door is wide open on this subject.

Best Regards,
Ron

BTW: Listener stories will always trump any other type on Ron’s Amazing Stories!

RAS #364 – Prison of a Billion Years

On Ron’s Amazing Stories this week we have classic science fiction tale on how to control criminals in the future. Also, we have a haunted phone, a shadow brother, and a new segment of Johnny Is It True. Tom Williams is back and tells us that life is better than the movies. So, hang on for the ride and enjoy the show!

Featured Story – Prison Of A Billion Years

Adam Slade was a man who had nothing to lose by making a break for it. The trouble was, he knew that no one had ever escaped from the Prison of a Billion Years. – C.H. Thames

Sound like a good story? I thought so when I read it. It first appeared in the April 1956 issue of Imagination Science Fiction and It was Written by C.H. Thames. The story is rich with adventure, read by one of the best storytellers I know, Mark Nelson and is called Prison Of A Billion Years.

I’ve Been Thinking!

I have been thinking a lot about the podcast and where I want to go with it. You have probably noticed some of the changes already. I am looking to have more guests on the show, do more stories that I don’t have to worry about the copyrights, and even creating new original content. The field is wide open and the only block I face is my lack of imagination.

We Want Your StoriesThis is where you can help. Do you have ideas for the podcast? Is there someone you know that tells a great story? Maybe you have a favorite author you would like to hear. All of these things are how you can help Ron’s Amazing Stories to move forward.

You guys are great about sending in your stories. For that, I am truly grateful. They have become the backbone of our programs and life’s blood of what we do. So please send more of them in because “We Want Your Stories!”.

I guess the most important thing I want to say is to thank you for all of the support you give to me and the podcast. You guys are the best and why I do this each week!

Best Regards,
-Ron
