RAS #575 – Bigfoot In Space

Featured Story – I Like Martian Music

Our featured story comes from the pulp magazine Fantastic Universe September issue 1957. The story plays on the Ray Bradbury theme of The Martian Chronicles but with a twist. Earth has still been destroyed and is looking to find solace on Mars. But do they find the music too much for them? The tale is called, I Like Martian Music and was written by Charles E. Fritch.

There have been a number of interesting theories advanced about life on Mars, but few have equalled Charles Fritch’s intriguing picture of the world of Longtree and Channeljumper in its infinite variations, tonal and thematic. The Mars of these two is an old culture, old and finite.

RAS #574 – A Case Of Identity

This is our first themed program of the Ron’s Amazing Stories podcast in 2023. Rest assured that there will be more to follow. Today we focus on Sherlock Holmes. We will be reviewing a modern day radio drama series from the XM radio producer, Jim French. Our featured story was written by the great Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. It focuses on a jilted lover, Miss Sutherland, who has been left at the altar by her fiancé when he mysteriously disappeared on their wedding day. Miss Sutherland approaches Sherlock Holmes to help find him, and he discovers that the truth is stranger than fiction. It is titled A Case Of Identity and was first published in a collection of short stories called The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes in September of 1891.

Our featured story this week comes from the classic radio series X minus One. Have you ever thought, Man if there were only two of me I could get things done. Well, today we take a look at what that could be like. A milquetoast lawyer accidentally receives a package in the mail containing a cloning machine from the future, with which he sets about making a duplicate capable of turning his life around. But does it work? We will find out in the story Child’s Play. It first aired on X-Minus One on October 20, 1955.

RAS #572 – The Dark Mirror

On Ron’s Amazing Stories this time we have some new stuff mixed with the old. We have three listener stories that are tied together in a pretty unique way. Our featured story comes from the OTR series Screen Directors Playhouse. After a murder, Lt. Stevenson questions the dead man’s girlfriend. Sensing that she’s keeping a secret, he confronts her at home, where he meets her identical twin sister. Both women appear exactly alike, sometimes even posing as each other. However, when a twin expert analyzes the sisters, he finds that one twin is normal, and the other is psychotic — but which one? The story is titled The Dark Mirror, and it stars Olivia de Havilland playing the role of both sisters. It first aired March 31, 1950.
