On Ron’s Amazing Stories we are doing something that we have never done before. Ron has collected some questions and comments sent in by the listeners to respond to. Also, on the show we have one of Ron’s all time favorite stories, The Time Machine by HG Wells. What you will hear is an adaptation of that story, which is very different from HG’s vision. Featured Story – The Time Machine

Our featured story comes from the old time radio series Escape. As I mentioned at the top, The Time Machine is one of my all time favorites. More than 120 years have passed since its initial publication in 1895. Yet today it still can stand alone as one of the best time travel tales of all time and continues to engage readers and inspire fellow science fiction authors. But the question is how do you tell this story in a 30 minute format.  Well that is what the folks did at Escape. However they took the story in a completely different direction, which is what you will hear right now. It is still titled The Time Machine and it first aired on May 9, 1948 which is exactly 74 years ago

Our featured story this week comes from the 1952 OTR series Tarzan – Lord Of The Jungle. The series aired on the Mutual-Don Lee West Coast Network and on CBS until 1953. It is titled The Volcano of the Sun and first aired on March 6, 1952.  Tarzan is accused of murder and must prove his innocence to the tribal chief and his daughter. So please enjoy that famous Tarzan Yell.

On Ron’s Amazing Stories this time we head to the planet Mercury with the IFP. Ancient astronomers had long suspected that Mercury always presented the same side to the sun, though they were ignorant to the fact that the little planet also had water and air. Complete silliness of course, but not in our story. I think you are going to love this one, and meeting the Mercurians. 

Featured Story – The Earthman’s Burden

Our featured story comes from the pages of the pulp magazines. Specifically, the June 1931 edition of Astounding Stories. It is titled The Earthman’s Burden by R.F. Starzl. It tells of Danny Olear of the Interplanetary Flying Police (IFP). There is foul play on mercury until Danny gets after his man. It is read for us by William Hahn from Sidney, Australia.

On Ron’s Amazing Stories this time we have a classic creepy tale titled Night Has a Thousand Eyes. This probably conjures up all kinds of ideas of what this story might be about. The real events however are much deeper than the title suggests. Also, on the show we have an extended These Are Your Stories. Our featured story is a creepy tale about a phony stage mentalist who mysteriously acquires supernatural powers of precognition. Night Has a Thousand Eyes is a 1948 horror film directed by John Farrow and starring Edward G. Robinson. The screenplay was written by Barré Lyndon and is based on the novel of the same name by Cornell Woolrich. The production you will hear is an adaptation of the story on the Screen Directors Playhouse. It first aired on February 27, 1949.
