RAS #574 – A Case Of Identity

We will be reviewing a modern day radio drama series from the XM radio producer, Jim French. Featured Story – A Case Of Identity

Our featured story was written by the great Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. It focuses on a jilted lover, Miss Sutherland, who has been left at the altar by her fiancé when he mysteriously disappeared on their wedding day. Miss Sutherland approaches Sherlock Holmes to help find him, and he discovers that the truth is stranger than fiction. It is titled A Case Of Identity and was first published in a collection of short stories called The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes in September of 1891.

Featured Story – Child’s Play

Our featured story this week comes from the classic radio series X minus One. Have you ever thought, Man if there were only two of me I could get things done. Well, today we take a look at what that could be like. A milquetoast lawyer accidentally receives a package in the mail containing a cloning machine from the future, with which he sets about making a duplicate capable of turning his life around. But does it work? We will find out in the story Child’s Play. It first aired on X-Minus One on October 20, 1955.

RAS #572 – The Dark Mirror

On Ron’s Amazing Stories this time we have some new stuff mixed with the old. We have three listener stories that are tied together in a pretty unique way. Featured Story – The Dark Mirror

Our featured story comes from the OTR series Screen Directors Playhouse. After a murder, Lt. Stevenson questions the dead man’s girlfriend. Sensing that she’s keeping a secret, he confronts her at home, where he meets her identical twin sister. Both women appear exactly alike, sometimes even posing as each other. However, when a twin expert analyzes the sisters, he finds that one twin is normal, and the other is psychotic — but which one? The story is titled The Dark Mirror, and it stars Olivia de Havilland playing the role of both sisters. It first aired March 31, 1950.

RAS #571 – Death Of A Spaceman

On Ron’s Amazing Stories this time we have some UFO encounters sent in by listeners Terrell, and Rosalina. Terrell has a strange visitor after seeing a UFO, and Rosa watches a UFO flyby while drinking a very expensive bottle of wine. Then we have a striking story from the pages of the pulp mags about the old spaceman who faces his own mortality. We end the show with a new look at Newton and his discovery of gravity. Featured Story – Death of a Spaceman

Our featured story for this time comes from Amazing Stories Magazine March of 1954. I wrestled with this one for quite a while before deciding whether to play it or not. The subject matter is a bit rough. It tells the story of the death of a spaceman from the point of view of that very spaceman. I found it deeply profound and entertaining. It is my hope that you do as well. It is titled Death of a Spaceman and was written by Walter M. Miller, Jr. It is read for us by Gregg Margarite.

The manner in which a man has lived is often the key to the way he will die. Take old man Donegal, for example. Most of his adult life was spent in digging a hole through space to learn what was on the other side. Would he go out the same way?

RAS #570 – Beyond Infinity

On Ron’s Amazing Stories this week we have your stories which this time focus on the shadow man. Jason tells about a shadow standing at this bedroom door and Dewey’s shadow turns the power off. Then we have a tale that combines science, cool gadgets, and some espionage thrown in for flavor. This one truly is classic science fiction at its best. Featured Story – Beyond Infinity

Our featured story is a science fiction marvel. It comes from the classic radio series Dimension X. It is titled Beyond Infinity and tells us a story that is part espionage thriller and part science fiction drama. In a police state somewhere in Europe, a scientist invents a machine capable of shrinking objects to microscopic size, which he intends to use to help rebels smuggle weapons under the noses of government forces. This is one of the best stories that Dimension X ever did. It first aired on July 21, 1950.
