The News – September 2018

It’s that time again to update you on the news from the world of Ron’s Amazing Stories. I want you to know what’s up, what’s coming and what projects have died.

Dead Projects:

The response to the new show format has been nothing short of, “WOW!”. You have said that you don’t miss the old time radio, and want to hear more listeners stories. Also, the reading of classic short-stories from our past is the way to go. I concur, and while I don’t promise to kill all the Old Time Radio, we will not lean on them as our bread and butter. Also, those of you on the radio side. I hear and obey. We will not be changing the format of that show in October. It will continue to be the same as the podcast.

New Projects:

In contrast to the dead project, I am working with a few people to bring back some old time radio. Jason Dowd and I are in the beginnings of working through this idea. To that end, I have created a script and David Larsen doing the same for two brand new 2018 editions of the 5 Minute Mystery. I have not heard from David on the progress of his story, but I am in the process of casting my script this week. Stay tuned for more information on this exciting new project.

October 16The October Month Of Spooky 2018:

This is becoming pretty exciting. Not only has Jim Harold signed up, Sylvia Shults has agreed and both are on the calendar for record dates. Also, P.I.O.T. will join in the fun and I am looking at one more surprise for the fabulous event. Will one month be enough to get all this in?

The RAS Survey:

I am looking to add a sponsor to pay the costs of servers and hardware. You can help with this by taking the “Listener Survey”.  It takes about five minutes to complete and asks questions about you, but requires no personal information. This information used to show to prospective sponsors my demographics. Please take a minute of your time to do this it would really help out a lot. If you have already taken the survey. Thank you so very much!

Changes To The Blog

Update For JanuaryStarting this week there will be some changes made to the weekly blog. Not to worry the main content won’t be changing in fact I hope to expand it with contributions by you or our guests. The biggest change is that I won’t be providing a calendar any more. This was becoming just link to old podcasts. It will be replaced by upcoming events. This will include events not only for the podcast, but appearances I make on other shows. I did not implement it this week, but look for it next time.

I received this Email from David Larsen: I looked for the podcast survey on my mobile device, however I couldn’t find the link. On further inspection I looked on my computer, and low and behold there it was on the sidebar. So, I think if you had another hyperlink to it that could be accessed from a mobile device you might get a more people to take it – David.

Thank you for that David! You are quite right about that. It is there on your phone, but you have to scroll through every episode on the site to get to it. That is over 200 hundred shows and that will not do. So starting this week you will see a link in the blog and show notes for the survey in the credits section. My apologies for that.

-Ron

The News – July of 2018

Twitter Kills Ron’s Amazing Stories!

Twitter Kills The RASDid you hear the news about Twitter this past week? They removed all of the fake accounts that people were using to make you believe they had followers. Unfortunately for me, my account was deleted. But, the kind folks at Twitter quickly restored it. While all of the people I follow (about 750) and all of my posts were restored those of you that followed me were gone. Please help me restore my good name and follow me again. I promise to follow you back… if I am not already. Before all of this happened we had about 1400 folks on twitter. In truth that is not very many, but I am sure they weren’t fake. While we are on the subject. If the truth is told. I would rather you follow the show on Facebook. It so much easier to interact with you.

The RAS Survey

I am looking to add a sponsor to pay the costs of servers and hardware. You can help with this by taking the “Listener Survey”.  It takes about five minutes to complete and asks questions about you, but requires no personal information. This information used to show to prospective sponsors my demographics. Please take a minute of your time to do this it would really help out a lot. If you have already taken the survey. Thank you so very much!

Ron’s Amazing Stories – Volume One

As you know I took a week off. What did I do? Well, one of the things was to organize and go through every story that has been sent in over the last the seven years of the podcast. There have been over 100 keepable stories sent in. I have always planned that when I got enough stories I was going to write a book. I think 100+ hits the mark and I have begun working on it in earnest. I am kind of excited.

Looking For Military Stories

I am planning a special military episode of the podcast and would like to include your stories. If you have an experience about your or a relative’s time in the military please share it with us. It can be funny, sad or exciting. Anything works! You can submit your stories here.

April News Bring May Projects

I  have been talking a lot about changes coming to Ron’s Amazing Stories projects. I thought for this blog I would take some time and update you. I want to encourage you to comment on these and let me know what you think.

The Radio Show:  The podcast airs each week on Sunday nights at 8 PM Pacific on AMFM247.com and in twelve U.S. cities on Terrestrial Radio. We have been on the radio since 2015 and the audience has grown a lot since then. Recently, the podcast was moved to Sunday nights to headline a block of Old Time Radio shows. My radio producer and I have decided to change the format of this show and separate it from the podcast. It will change to 30-40 minute blocks of OTR material ranging from full episodes to interviews. This show will also promote the podcast and the podcast the radio show. Ron’s Amazing Stories will not be changing much as a result of this and will continue on as it is today. Although, I do hope to use less old-time radio dramas and more of your stories. You can help with that by sending me your stories or come on the show and tell them yourself.

The RAS is now on the Amazon EchoThe RAS Archives:  Did you know that you can hear the beginnings of the podcast?  Episodes 1 to 100 are not available on the main podcast RSS feed. Not to fear these shows have been donated to the public domain and can be found on archive.org. Want to hear how bad or good I was at the start of things? Go find out!  At the beginning of next year, I plan to move another 50 shows there.

Spotify: Did you know that Ron’s Amazing Stories is on Spotify?  We are… and are proud to be there. There are millions of tracks on Spotify. So whether you’re working out, partying or relaxing, the right music is always at your fingertips. Choose what you want to listen to, or let Spotify surprise you. Please help us by telling your friends about it and that the podcast is available on the mobile edition of Spotify.

That is the news today and I want to thank you for reading the blog this week.

-Ron
