RAS #567 – The Dog And His Shadow

On Ron’s Amazing Stories we are bringing back an old friend to the show. The Blue Beetle. The last time we heard from him was in Episode #214, and that is far too long. BB is a superhero patrolman who got his start in the comics in 1939. What I will play is his origin story from the classic radio series of the same name. Also on the show, have three stories from you guys. A brand new one from Ray Peyton about a lighter and two chilling tales that should get your blood flowing.

Featured Story – The Shadow And His Dog

The Dog and His Shadow

Our featured story is not from old time radio, or the pulp magazines, and we don’t have a guest. However, what we do have is a creepy listener story that, quite frankly, gave me chills while I recorded it. It was sent into the show by Brian Shaw from Salem, Oregon. Brian tells a story about a shadow man who stands out in front of his house watching. This is one creepy story!

Other Stories Include – Pattern Of Guilt, 2001 – A Space Odyssey – A Review, The Purple Lighter, Did that just happen, The Dog and His Shadow, and The Drug Ring

My Night Job Is Haunted

Our story comes from Carlton Jacobs who writes to us from somewhere in California. He has titled this My Night Job Is Haunted!

My Night Job Is Haunted

I work as a night janitor for several small businesses in my city. One of my main locations, which I clean daily, is an animal hospital. There is a kennel where sometimes there are hospitalized patients overnight. There is a grief room for families to spend their last moments with their pets, and they also have a cremation machine for animals that have died. I often see their ashes in a tray in that room. I have always gotten a strange energy from those two rooms that I don’t feel anywhere else in the hospital. not a bad energy, just melancholy, and the hints of spirit activity.

A few months ago I started experiencing the feeling that I’m being followed or watched. I’ll look around and do a quick walk through the hospital to make sure, but find nothing. Since this started I’ve become more aware of my surroundings and keeping my eye out, and sure enough, I see shadows of animals moving out of the corner of my eye. I’ll see a flash of an orange cat’s tail, or a slinky looking cat creeping against the wall. I wear earbuds at work, but I’ll still hear barking. When I take them out… nothing. The first thing I do every day is check to see if there are any hospitalized patients and yes I have heard barking even if there are no overnight guests. The most common place I see shadows is the grief room, and the most common place I hear animal sounds is the kennel. No bad energy at all, I just think there are some lost pets who are looking for their families.  – Carlton Jacobs

Well Carlton, that does sound creepy. Have you ever thought about capturing some evidence of your experiences? I for one would love to hear anything that you pick up. Thank you for sharing your experiences.

Ron

RAS #566 – Robot Killer

On Ron’s Amazing Stories we have a pseudo theme on the life and times of Isaac Asimov. We review an audiobook written by him called Robot Dreams. We even play a game of Johnny Is It True where you get to pick which famous Asimovian quote I faked. Add to that a story from the OTR series 2000 plus that is titled Robot Killer, well I think you get the idea. Not too worry though it is not all robots there are two ghost stories sent in by Richard and Tambra that are quite creepy.

Featured Story – Killer Robot

Killer Robot

Our featured story comes from the short lived radio series 2000 Plus. It ran on the Mutual Broadcasting System for a little over a year ending in 1952. It was the first adult science fiction series on radio, airing one month prior to the better-known Dimension X.  The tale is called Robot Killer and is one that Isaac Asimov would be proud of. It takes a good look at the pitfalls of owning a robot. It aired in Late 1950.

Other Stories Include – A Bit Of Logic, Eyes Do More Than See, Kids In The Woods, A Wolf Encounter, Robot Killer, And Johnny Is It True – Isaac’s Quotes

Grandma’s Tricks

This week’s story ran on the show a few months ago on episode #509. It comes from Sonia Norman who sent this from Pennsylvania. I like this one because I have never heard of a protective grandmother who just happens to be a ghost. Sonia has titled her story Grandma’s Tricks.

So, before anything, I’m going to confirm that we do have at least one ghost in our house. It’s a woman, and several neighbors have confirmed seeing her. She’s the grandma of my mom’s boyfriend and he’s claimed to have felt her as well. Me and my mom have also seen a shadow go from a room to the bathroom and vice versa. With that out of the way, let’s begin.

It was around 12 AM, and I had just finished taking a shower. Everyone’s asleep. My family, the neighbors, everyone. My neighborhood sleeps like a log. I enter my room, which happens to be in the basement, and head towards my bed.  Then I hear a woman’s laugh. It felt as if she was in front of me, and sitting on my bed. I thought to myself okay, no biggie. Maybe she’s amused at something; I know she’s not inherently harmful. Just overprotective over mom’s boyfriend. So I turned on the bedroom lights and laid down, trying to sleep and act like it didn’t happen.

Unfortunately an hour passes and I haven’t fallen asleep. Mom’s boyfriend wakes up and turns on the TV upstairs. I go up and start talking to him about the laugh. He tells me to ignore it and it should be over. We start talking about other experiences we have both had. There was a flicker of a light on the balcony… that light has been dead for years. It never turns on. I point it out, but we keep talking about past experiences. The light flickers again, and this time I’m a bit more scared, but he laughs it off saying grandma is just trying to get your goat and on cue the light flickered a third time.  After a bit I decided to go back to my room.

My body had chills all over, and all I could feel was fear and dread. There was nothing else, just sleepiness and fear. Thirty minutes passed and the chills still hadn’t left my body. I looked around the room knowing that I was not alone. Then in the corner a flame starts to flicker. It forms into the shape of a woman and she starts wagging her finger at me.  I am twenty-three years old and tore out of that room and ran to my mom’s bedroom. I jumped into bed with her and never left her side for the rest of the night. Now, you might ask where the boyfriend slept? Quite honestly I didn’t care. – Sonia Norman
