On RAS This Week – More UFOS

Old Time UFOs

On the show this time we have four listener submitted stories all about UFO encounters. Also on the UFO subject is a description of an Alien Battle that took place over the city of Nuremberg, Germany in 1561. Our featured story this week comes from the golden age of radio. It is titled The Lights Of Precipice Peak and ties in quite nicely with the UFO theme.

RAS #488 – Ghost Story Throwdown

On Ron’s Amazing Stories this time Sylvia and I have a good old-fashioned showdown! Which of us can tell if the other has faked them out? We call this the Ghost Story Throwdown 2021. Also on the show is a shadow story from Madison, NC that just might be creepiest yet. You will have to decide that yourself. It is titled That Shadow Shot Me.

In Episode RAS #485 – Dagger Heart Station we presented a story from the OTR series Buck Rogers. I asked for your feedback on this one via a poll. That poll is now closed and I want to thank all of you that took a moment to respond. Of the people that responded 70% of you made it pretty clear that Buck Rogers was not a fan favorite. 7% of you don’t ever want to hear from Buck again. That is good enough for me. Here is the link to the results. Thank you!

Stories Include:  Mail Order Murder, Upon Reflection by Sting, That Shadow Shot Me, Ron’s UFO incident, The Singing Ghost of Joliet Prison, The Ghost At The Calumet Theatre, The Bryant Road  Soldier, The Ghost Dog Of Putman County, The Cigar Smoking Nun, and The Polergiest’s Milk Jug

Program Note: Sylvia Shults is a Librarian, Author, and Ghost Hunter. She has spent a lifetime in the pursuit of the weird and strange. Her non-fiction works include Ghost of the Illinois River, Fractured Spirits, 44 Years in Darkness, Hunting Demons, The Spirits of Christmas, and her latest release Fractured Souls. The Buck Rodgers Poll

On Episode #485 – Dagger Heart Station we played the the first three episodes of a Buck Rodgers story titled The Gyro-Cosmic Realivator. After that show I asked you come here and take poll. Please take a moment and vote. Thank you for reading – Ron

Voting is closed on this. Thank you to everyone that took a moment to take the poll

RAS #487 – The Country Tavern

On Ron’s Amazing Stories this time we have ghost stories and spend some time in space being afraid of The Nothing. If that doesn’t make any sense …It will later on. We have an epic story from James that follows a haunting in a restaurant in New Hampshire. This one is so good that I titled the podcast after it. The Country Tavern.

Featured Story – The Nothing

Our featured story for this week is so good. When man first went into space there was a real concern about what we would find out there. But did they really think about what would happen if they found nothing? That is what our story is about and it is titled The Nothing. It was written by Tom Godwin, and is read by Mark Nelson

Other Stories Include By Any Other Name, IRobot, The Country Tavern, The Shadow Man Likes His Sheets, I Swear It Took Our Sheets, and Johnny Is It True – Strange Stuff.

The Haunted Tower

Your story this week is not your typical military fare. We hear stories of bravery, strife and death. But haunted guard towers? I have to say this was a first for me. This tale first appeared in episode #344 – It’s Our Military. I hope you enjoy it!

Hello Ron, I hope I made it in time with my submission. It took some deciding which story to share from my time in the military. I never had a good time working the security force for my first deployment whether I was stuck at the gate or in a tower. However, the story I will tell comes from then. On my first night on our outpost, before I even had a good sense of direction, was a tell-tale sign that I was in for some trouble.

I was posted alone in Tower 2 (the towers were numbered 1 through 4). This tower faced a mountain to the north, and a Pakistan village to the east. I didn’t know about the village yet, because they were going through a power outage. The timing couldn’t have been more dramatic. No sooner than I put on my night vision, their power was restored. All I know is I saw flickering lights appearing in a sequence, and in a long line. I pictured your typical Hollywood scenario: a bunch of guys on horses holding torches ready to raid. I felt pretty stupid when I called this in, because HQ didn’t need to see anything to know what had me in a panic. This was the beginning of a beautiful relationship.

I was finally as comfortable as you can get in a war zone, when I had to cover a night shift in Tower 3. It was a quiet night, and during a local holiday that even the combatants relaxed for a month-long religious practice. I was bored and admiring the stars when I heard it.

Something started rustling right outside the wall and under my tower. I shouted down and readied for who knows what.  I felt adrenaline kicking in and my perception of time slowing down. I searched around and even underneath the tower and there was nothing and no one around. Just as I convinced myself I had been awake too long, and as if right on cue, I heard a soft “meh” outside of the wall. I experienced a strange mix of horror and confusion.

What I was hearing was the  disembodied voice……of a goat?  Well, at least I had company.

My friends made fun of the disembodied goat experience, but everyone has had their share of unexplained noises while working that haunted guard tower.  Tower #3.
