Our Little Ghost

This time we have a story from JC Moore in Bonita, California. From what I gather this is not a large town at all so, a shout to everyone there!  We have had a lot of stories like this on the show, but never one that truly defies any explanation. JC writes:

Our Little Ghost

I was thirteen years old when we moved here to Bonita. We bought a small farm just outside of town and had just moved in when things began to happen. The first was that the back door would open itself. No matter what we did or how we locked it, it opened somehow. My dad thought it was us kids and we thought it was them. So, we all agreed to put a camera on the door and watch it.

Right at the stroke of midnight the door shook and opened on its own. We have video proof of it. From there more stuff happened.  One night at dinner we heard the back door open.  Then the kitchen door swung open and shut and it all ended with bang on the front door. We all laughed and dad said, “Well I guess it didn’t want to go around the house.”

Again we all saw this! We have gotten used to our little ghost. You can feel it when it is around and it likes to play jokes on us all time.  Its favorite game is, Hide The Keys. I wanted to tell my story because most of your ghost stories are scary. I wanted people to know that there are friendly spirits out there too. I am 15 now and love my life with my ghost. – JC Moore

The first question that comes to my mind is: “What happens when you have guests?” I have very little doubt that there are good spirits out there.  Thank you for sharing!

A True Campfire Story

We have a story sent in by Roger Mathews of Hollywood. Roger is a singer, songwriter and actor who wants us all to know that he does not drink, do drugs or is crazy. He believes that after you hear his story you will wonder. In his own words here is his story.

I am a struggling actor and that means you can’t be choosy about the jobs you take in order to survive. A friend of mine told me about an acting company that does summer tours performing at camp grounds all through Nevada and Utah. They set up and do weekend shows and then move on to the next. I joined them late in the tour as a replacement for a guy who broke his leg. His show would not go on and I would be the new Jimmy in a scary campfire story called, The Ghost Of Swamp Park.

A True Campfire Story

After our last show of the weekend we have the tradition of inviting all of the campers to a s’more and taco feast at the bonfire. We would chat with the guests, sing songs and tell more stories. It is always the hit of the weekend. I played my guitar and sang and if I am honest it was my favorite part of each week.

After each bonfire night one of us had to stay behind to tend the fire until it no longer was a threat. Sometimes we had company, but most of the time it was just one person. We drew lots to see who got the chore. It was more of a betting game than anything and was great fun, until you lost. One of our group members never got the chore all season. I ended up with it three times.

It was on that third time the perfect storm hit. The bonfire had been held in an open field and was not very close to the campground. It was a dark clear night – no moon and I was not only alone, but I felt lonely!  I started out my vigil by calming the fire down as much as possible. Then I settled in with my comfy fold up chair, started my iPod and waited.

After about 30 minutes my iPod went silent. I was sure I had charged it, but it was dead. The fire was still way too hot to leave, but I decided to start shoveling dirt on it away. I hoped to speed things up. It was then I heard the voice say, “It’s too early for that. You dimwit!”

“Huh!”, I said with all the intelligence and grace of a baboon. (Not to give Baboons a bad name mind you). I looked around and there was no one there. The voice had sounded right next to me, but I was still alone.

Out of the darkness it came again, “The fire, idiot, you can’t cover it up yet it’s too big!”

Someone slipped me something, I thought. I am hallucinating …badly!

“You are not hallucinating. Can’t you see me?” It replied.

“Um, no I am looking and not seeing a thing. Are you dead?” I immediately regretted saying that. Too many ghost stories I told myself … way too many and sat down in my cozy chair again.

“I loved your songs and I aint sure if I am dead”, he replied.

I tried to cover my ears, but I still heard him just fine.

He continued “You are a good singer and you made a lot of folks very happy.”

“Thank-you, I guess”. I jumped up. “Who is this? Who is out there?” I yelled and began to run around looking for wires, speakers, people, heck I was even looking for a ghost. I found nothing.

He spoke again, “Name’s Pete, I am looking for gold around these parts. I’ll not be telling you where, so don’t ask.”

“I wouldn’t think of it, ” I stated flatly. This is crazy, I thought. I have lost it and now I am in real trouble.

“You’re not crazy and I’m not gonna hurt you. Unless you go fer my gold. I would get upset bout that.”

“I wouldn’t think of it. Where are you? I asked.

“Right here, darn yah!”

As his voice trailed off I saw a faint outline of a man against the starry backdrop. He was bent over and old. He looked like he had done hard labor his whole life.

“I am called Rodger”, I said, still staring at him.

No reply came and the form shifted to mist and floated away. I fell back into my chair and just sat for some time. To me it was very real and the more I go over it the more I believe I was visited by Pete’s ghost. – Roger Mathews

On the program this week we have a creepy story about a missing actor and his wife. What happened to them? Did they fall prey to The Thing From The Sea? Also, on the show we have more of your stories. Including one from Aang about his cryptid encounter in Santa Fe. This one defies any logic. You can listen to this podcast on Thursday at Ron’s Amazing Stories, download it from Apple Podcasts, stream it on Stitcher Radio or on the mobile version of Spotify. Do you prefer the radio? RAS #607 – Invasion

On Ron’s Amazing Stories we are going to have some fun with science! I will review the audiobook A Grown-Up Guide to Planet Earth. Then it is Bigfoot week. We have three stories from you that are all about the big guy. We end the show with a story from the 1950s pulp magazine scene titled Invasion. If you were to judge this story by the title you might think that this is your typical alien conquering story. That is not what we have. This is a fresh look at an old story. So, press that play button to enjoy the show.

Featured Story – Invasion

Arthur Bertram Chandler

Our featured story comes from the pages of Super-Science Fiction October edition 1958. For generations they had wandered about the universe looking for a planet on which to settle. And now at long last they seemed to have found a suitable home. But who owns this planet and what will it take to invade it? The story is titled Invasion and it was written by Arthur Bertram Chandler. It is expertly read for us by Dan Gurzynski.

Other Stories Include – Rocky Stebbin’s Alibi, A Grown-Up Guide to Planet Earth, Catching Bigfoot, Susquatch In The Road, Bigfoot Took My Wallet, and Invasion.

RAS #606 – The Man Who Stole A Planet

On Ron’s Amazing Stories this time we review the halloween audiobook, A Night In The Lonesome October. Then we will hear three new listener stories on These Are Your Stories. Our featured story is about a man and his bid to steal a whole planet! And we will end the show with the story about World War II super spy Juan Garcia. So if that sounds amazing press that play button.

Featured Story – The Man Who Stole A Planet

Ernst Chapell

Our featured story for this week comes from the series Quiet Please. This is one of the more strange stories I have heard from the show. A man collects bodies in his freezer, but he is not a serial killer, or an evil man. Or is he? It is titled The Man Who Stole A Planet and it first aired on July 26, 1948.

Program Note: Our story today was in pretty sad shape. I have wanted it on the show in the past, but lacked the skill to restore it. However, I took another go at it and this is what I came up with. While far from perfect it can be followed. I highly recommend that you listen to it with headphones.

Other Stories Include – Three Scarlet Letters, A Night in the Lonesome October, The shaking, My Mother Sees Dead People, The Night Of The Bagman, The Man Who Stole A Planet, and Not So Important Times In History – Juan Garcia.
