RAS #610 – The Horror Of Dead Lake

This is the first podcast of The Month Of Spooky 2023. On Ron’s Amazing Stories we have a tale from Rose about an old man hanging out on her porch. Then we head to Captain Doubloon’s Castle for an OTR classic tale from CBS Radio Mystery Theater. This is an extended story that should have you squirming like a worm. I am excited about the month and I think it is time to press that play button and enjoy.

Featured Story – The Horror Of Dead Lake

The Horror Of Dead Lake

Our featured story for this time is the stuff of nightmares. Sometimes science gives us amazing breakthroughs. However, sometimes they produce monsters. The story is titled The Horror Of Dead Lake. It comes from the third season of CBS Radio Mystery Theater and it has been suggested to be the most horrific of all of them. Upon hearing of their inheritance, Claude and Polly Baxter are thrilled to be the proud new owners of Captain Doubloon’s Castle and its mysterious lake. Is it a find or folly? This one first aired on CBS radio on February 9, 1976.

Other Stories Include – Murder In The Tomb, Our First Halloween, and The Horror of Dead Lake

The Month Of Spooky 2023

This week begins the Month Of Spooky 2023. I have themed podcasts ranging from ghost stories, monsters, and even some cryptids. We will have an extra podcast. The fans of the RAS requested a replay of the episode where Sylvia and I did a MST3k-Take of OTR classic The Thing On The Fourble Board. We will end the month with a very special Ghost Stories With Sylvia. Sylvia, Emma Lynn Dowd, and I will tell the story of my mom’s haunted doll. It is quite the adventure, and “spoiler-alert” ends with the doll becoming a permanent resident at the May-Stringer House. This is a haunted museum in Brooksville, Florida.  It should be a very spooky month.

Our Little Ghost

This time we have a story from JC Moore in Bonita, California. From what I gather this is not a large town at all so, a shout to everyone there!  We have had a lot of stories like this on the show, but never one that truly defies any explanation. JC writes:

Our Little Ghost

I was thirteen years old when we moved here to Bonita. We bought a small farm just outside of town and had just moved in when things began to happen. The first was that the back door would open itself. No matter what we did or how we locked it, it opened somehow. My dad thought it was us kids and we thought it was them. So, we all agreed to put a camera on the door and watch it.

Right at the stroke of midnight the door shook and opened on its own. We have video proof of it. From there more stuff happened.  One night at dinner we heard the back door open.  Then the kitchen door swung open and shut and it all ended with bang on the front door. We all laughed and dad said, “Well I guess it didn’t want to go around the house.”

Again we all saw this! We have gotten used to our little ghost. You can feel it when it is around and it likes to play jokes on us all time.  Its favorite game is, Hide The Keys. I wanted to tell my story because most of your ghost stories are scary. I wanted people to know that there are friendly spirits out there too. I am 15 now and love my life with my ghost. – JC Moore

The first question that comes to my mind is: “What happens when you have guests?” I have very little doubt that there are good spirits out there.  Thank you for sharing!
