RAS #353 – The Brook’s Robbery

On Ron’s Amazing Stories we get a nerdy question from Ora, which I have fun answering. Delia from Wisconsin tells us about a protective ghost, and we take a walk in a haunted park. Also, we read the next two chapters of Anything You Can Do by Randall Garrett, and then we end it all with Tom warning us about the dangers of bologna and mayonnaise sandwiches.

Featured Story – Chapters 17 & 18  of Anything You Can Do…

This is a classic science fiction story written by Randall Garrett and published in 1963. An alien crash lands on Earth, and for ten years terrorizes the planet. Earth’s only hope is Bart Stanton, a medically-engineered superman, designed for the sole purpose of confronting the Nipe.

In this episode, Bart deals with the death of his friend and mentor. Detective Martin who we have learned is Bart’s twin brother returns to story. Will we, at last, have some answers as to why they were separated from each other. Tune in and find out.

Program Note: If You missed any of the previous chapters you can find them here.

The News – November 2018

Spooky 2018

A Freaky GraphI should start out with just how successful the Month Of Spooky was for 2018. Based on the numbers and the comments that I received this was our most successful event to date. They were up over last years event from about 8700 per episode to about 9400. That is an 8% increase over last year! These are the internet numbers and don’t reflect those who listen on the radio. Also, we received a total of 13 stories from you guys for the month. This is an all-time record for a single month in the history of the podcast. Thank you so much for listening and supporting the show.

The Radio Show

Many of you have been asking for clarification on the changing of the podcast and what it means to the radio show. I have talked this over with Jason, who produces the radio show, and things are not going to change. We will continue to have the same content on both platforms. However, there is a caveat: The radio show is limited to 55 minutes. If a podcast runs over that limit I will have to edit the radio side to fit the time requirement. (Example: This past month the Old Time Horror episode with Jim Harold had a total running time of 1:06. I was forced to edit that down. Not to worry though I used a little editing trick and sped up parts of the program. You may have noticed that in some places the action was a bit faster. Mostly on the OTR program.  Pretty tricky huh!)

Looking forward to Christmas

I am again asking for your stories.  This time Jason and I are planning a Christmas spirits program and want your spooky Christmas stories.  So, please if you have such a thing please get in contact with me at this link.  Thank you!

RAS #352 – The Truck Stop

This week on Ron’s Amazing Stories we continue with more scary stuff. We have a lost time story involving a phantom Gibson Flying V guitar, A trucker tells his story about a changeling hitchhiker and a waitress from Nevada tells about a customer who wasn’t. Also, this week we will resume the novel Anything You Can Do by Randall Garrett, and Tom Williams is back with another tale of Growing Up.

Featured Story – Chapter 16  of Anything You Can Do…

This is a classic science fiction story written by Randall Garrett and published in 1963. An alien crash lands on Earth, and for ten years terrorizes the planet. Earth’s only hope is Bart Stanton, a medically-engineered superman, designed for the sole purpose of confronting the Nipe.

In this episode, the Nipe makes a move that shakes the very foundation of the world he is trying to escape. Is it too much for humanity to take? Is it time for Bart to stop the Nipe and his six-year killing spree? Tune in to find out as we read chapter 16.

Wrap-Up The Spooky

More Spooky StoriesWell, the Month Of Spooky 2018 officially closed last Thursday with Jim Harold and Old Time Horror.  However, there was a problem. You guys sent in more scary stories than I could use during the month. In the business, we call that that a good thing! Why? Because that means that in this week’s podcast and the one to follow we will play those spooky tales! So, the month may be over, but the spookiness continues.

In the eight years of the podcast, I have never had so many story submissions in such a short period of time. It tells me a lot about you. You must like the podcast or at least like to tell scary tales.  On the podcast this week we have a lost time story involving a phantom Gibson Flying V guitar, A trucker tells his story about a changeling hitchhiker and a waitress from Nevada tells about a customer who wasn’t.

So please tune in this week and hear more spooky stuff.

This Week’s Podcast: In addition to what I told you above, Anything You Can Do by Randall Garrett returns with chapter 16, and we continue with Tom Williams Growing-Up! You can listen to this podcast on Thursday at Ron’s Amazing Stories, download it from iTunes, stream it on Stitcher Radio or on the mobile version of Spotify. Do you prefer the radio? We are heard every Sunday Night at 8:00 PM (PST) on AMFM247.COM. Check your local listing or find the station closest to you at this link.

RAS #351 – Old Time Horror VIII

On the podcast this week we continue the Month Of Spooky with, Old Time Horror VIII starring Jim Harold. Jim joins us to talk about old time radio, listen to a classic story about the walking dead, and discuss the facts about zombies and just how real they are. Jim Harold is a world-class podcaster. In addition to his free podcasts at JimHarold.com, Jim also hosts a series of premium podcasts on the supernatural and related subjects at JimHaroldPlus.com.

OTR Story – The Walking Dead

Creeps by Night was an American old-time radio horror program. It was broadcast on the Blue Network in 1944. Our story comes from later in the series after Boris Karloff had left the show. The story is about a plantation owner and his troubles with the Zombie population. It is called The Walking Dead and first aired on May 16th, 1944

Anything You Can Do and The Month of Spooky: We are not playing new chapters of Anything You Can Do by Randall Garrett during The Month Of Spooky.  It will return in November. For those of you who can’t wait for more of the novel. I will be updating the Anything You Can Do homepage each week with new chapters introduced by Mark Nelson himself. Also, on a side note, after we finish the book, Mark Nelson will be coming on the show to talk about it. I am excited about that!
