RAS #621 – Brave New World

On this episode of Ron’s Amazing Stories we present a tale that should shock you. Brave New World was written by English author Aldous Huxley in 1931. It took the world by storm, but not everyone was happy about it. In fact, it is one of the most banned novels on record.

The story is set in a dystopian future where society is controlled by a totalitarian government. People are born in test tubes and conditioned from birth to be happy and obedient. There is no freedom, no individuality, and no dissent. The protagonist of the story is a young man named John who is born outside of the system. He is raised in the countryside and learns about the true nature of the world. When he is brought to the city, he is shocked by what he sees. He cannot believe that people would give up their freedom for a life of comfort and conformity. John’s story is a cautionary tale about the dangers of totalitarianism. It is a warning about what can happen when we allow the government to control too much of our lives. A Brave New World is a powerful and thought-provoking novel that is still relevant today. It is a story that everyone should hear, even if it makes them uncomfortable.

Featured Story – Brave New World

Aldous Huxley

Our featured story was first published by Chatto & Windus in August of 1932. It is a novel by English author Aldous Huxley. What we will hear is the radio adaptation done by CBS Radio Workshop. The author himself does the narration and the quality of the recording is amazing! It is titled Brave New World and it first aired on January 27, 1956.

After the review, Ron will be sharing a listener story from Thailand about a moldy green woman. The featured story for this episode comes from the pages of the 1950’s pulp magazine Orbit. It tells the story of a reporter who has an encounter with a traveler in time. This is sure to be an amazing episode, so press that play button and enjoy the show.

Featured Story – A Traveler In Time

A Traveler In Time

Our featured story was written by August Derleth who was a writer and the first publisher of the writings of H. P. Lovecraft. So, I’ll bet you are thinking that you are in for a horror story. Our story today follows more of a HG Wells feel than H.P. Lovecraft’s horror. It tells the story of a reporter and his encounter with time travel. It is a strange story, full of twists and turns. It is titled A Traveler In Time and first appeared in the pulp magazine Orbit in 1953.

“YOU CAN’T ALWAYS ESCAPE EVILS BY RUNNING AWAY FROM THEM…BUT IT MAY HELP!”

Our featured story comes from the OTR series Escape. Escape brings together everything that was good about old-time radio. The title itself almost sums up the very essence of what radio drama is all about. It was truly one of the best anthology series of the golden age of radio. Our story today is special in another way. All good things do come to end, eventually, and such was true of Escape. This story was the very last episode to air. It happened on September 5, 1954. It tells the story of a man whose passion gets the best of him, and as the saying goes, what goes around comes around. It is titled The Heart Of Kali.

RAS #618 – Elizabeth The Doll

On Ron’s Amazing Stories this time we are telling the story of Elizabeth The Doll. Joining me are Emma Lynn Dowd and Sylvia Shults. Two of the most amazing people I have ever met. The doll came into my family’s life in 2005 and caused nothing but trouble. In the end I sent the creature to Emma in Florida to figure it out. Emma did solve part of the puzzle but not without experiencing troubles of her own. There are many twists and turns to be had – Bad dreams, whoaful luck, broken bones, and disembodied voices. What started as a new doll for a collection has ended up with more questions than answers. On the show this week Slyvia, Emma and I will give you at least a few of those answers.

Elizabeth The Doll

About Sylvia Shults:  Sylvia  is a Librarian, Author, and Ghost Hunter. She has spent a lifetime in the pursuit of the weird and strange. Her non-fiction works include Ghost of the Illinois River, Fractured Spirits, Fractured Souls, 44 Years in Darkness, The Spirits of Christmas, Days Of The Dead, and her latest release Grave Deeds and Dead Plots. All of her books are available on Amazon and you can find out more on her blog page.

About Emma Lynn Dowd:  From an early age, Emma has loved her art. Over the years she has used various mediums, but none was more profound than photography. She finds inspiration wherever she goes because she keeps her eyes open for things that will make the perfect photo. Emma lives in the great state of Florida, and is our radio producer. She has been putting the podcast out on the radio for the last 6+ years! She has led a fascinating life as an entertainer, ghost hunter, docent, youtuber, entrepreneur and even rock and roll photographer. You can find out more by visiting her website.
