RAS #671 – War Of The Worlds

This time on Ron’s Amazing Stories we have something special – one of my favorite stories, H.G. Wells’ 1898 novel, War of The Worlds. As a kid, I was both terrified and excited by the thought of life on Mars.

We’ve had War Of The Worlds on the show before, but it was only 30 minutes long and failed to capture the story. So, we have the Lux Radio Theater version, which does a great job telling this fantastic tale. The sound effects alone rival those in the movie, and the acting is even a tad bit better! It was created by Lux Radio Theater and stars Dana Andrews in the role of Professor Clayton Forrester. I think that you are going to enjoy it!

The Martians have ruined their planet and have decided to take ours for themselves, removing all humans in the process. I won’t give away the ending, but I will say that things don’t go as they planned.

Lux Radio Theater

War of the Worlds is a science fiction novel by H.G. Wells, first published in 1898. It tells the story of an alien invasion from Mars, where Martians with advanced technology and disregard for human life invade Earth. The narrative is notable for its realistic portrayal of panic and societal breakdown in the face of a superior force. What you will hear is Lux Radio Theater’s adaptation of the story. It first aired in August of 1955.

RAS #670 – Logger’s Larceny

On Ron’s Amazing Stories! In this episode, Ron reviews Louis L’Amour’s novel The High Graders. We follow this with two listener stories: Keenan’s time slip tale and Raygan’s baffling story of synchronicity. Both are amazing! Our featured story comes from the OTR series Tales of the Texas Rangers. While not a western it is a crime drama about a bad man’s poor choices. All of the stories in this series are based on true Texas Ranger case files which technically makes them True Crime! So Ron gives his thoughts on True Crime and its place in our society.

Featured Story – Logger’s Legacy

Tales Of The Texas Rangers

Our featured story comes from the western series Tales Of The Texas Rangers. The series was produced and directed by Stacy Keach Sr. He hired real life Texas Ranger Captain Manuel “Lone Wolf” Gonzaullas as the show’s advisor. Each show followed the same format – an announcer would describe the situation. When the problem was discovered, the Texas Rangers were called in and Jace Pearson was assigned. Our story comes from the final season of the radio show and is titled Logger’s Legacy. It first aired on February 4, 1951.

Other Stories Include – My thoughts on True Crime, Review of The High Graders, Why are you just standing there, and Hey That’s My Name

RAS #668 – Rawhide

On Ron’s Amazing Stories this week we open with a look at the history of Western films, from the silent era to modern times. Our featured story is Lux Radio Theater’s radio adaptation of the 1951 Western film Rawhide, starring Tyrone Power and Susan Hayward. The radio adaptation features Jeffrey Hunter and Donna Reed in the lead roles, with the supporting cast played by the actors from the Gunsmoke radio series.

Our story tells the tale of Tom Owens, the clean-cut and sophisticated gentleman son of J. C. Owens of the Overland Mail Company. His father wants his son to learn the business from the ground up, so he sends him west to a remote relay station, Rawhide Pass, to take lessons from stationmaster Sam Todd. Needless to say Tom learns a lot more than he bargained for when he meets a strong-willed woman named Vinnie Holt, and an outlaw Rafe Zimmerman, who had escaped from Huntsville the day before his scheduled hanging for murder.
