Ron’s Amazing Summary – 2016 and Beyond

With the end of the month of spooky comes a new year of the program and with that comes Ron’s Amazing Summary. The podcast first began in April of 2011, but it was not until October that I started to get the hang of things. So, for me the podcast’s birthday is always the spooky months. Here is a brief summary of the show.

Where Can You Listen to the Show?

One of the things that I am most proud of is that we have gotten the show into every major market except for Spotify and I am working on that one. You can find the show on iHeartRadio, iTunes, TuneIn Radio, Stitcher Radio, Google’s Music Play, Soundcloud, Spreaker, and many others.  Thanks to the support of Jason Dowd and the folks at AMFM247.com the show is heard on the radio airwaves in nine cities accross the the nation.  Every Friday night you can tune in the show at 8pm eastern time.

Are There Two Podcasts?

Yes! The main podcast is called Ron’s Amazing Stories and has over 260 episodes available. This show is the heart of soul of the project. There is however a second podcast called The Horror Express which I co-host with Jason Dowd. There are currently twelve episodes available. While this show does have its own show page. It does not have its own RSS feed. Jason and I both thought to piggyback the show on to the main podcast as it started out. If I can find a sponsor for the show it will find it’s permanent home on soundcloud. It will cost about $20.00 a month to do this. It may interest you to know that I did two other podcasts over the years that failed. They were called TSS – Flash Gordon and TSS – The Six Shooter. As I write this I can’t even remember what the TSS stood for.  I think it was The Six Shooter, which was poor thinking.

Two RSS feeds – Why?

First what is an RSS feed? It stands for Rich Site Summary, which was originally called RDF Site Summary, and is most often called Really Simple Syndication. It uses a family of standard web feed formats to publish frequently updated information like blog entries, news headlines, audio or video. Ron’s Amazing Stories has two of them.

RSS feed number one is the behind the scenes workhorse. It delivers the podcast to all of the major sources. The second RSS feed is for the older generation of podcast listeners. People who use only their email to listen. This feed not only contains the podcast, but the weekly newsletter as well. To clarify, if you listen to the show from your email you are using this feed. If you want to subscribe to it head to our home page and sign-up.

That’s It!

That is the end of Ron’s Amazing Summary on some things I thought I wanted to clarify. If you have any questions or have an idea for a show or blog post please contact me at ronsamazingstories@gmail.com. Thank you for reading!

We Revisit Debra Yates and Nancy Ward’s World.

A few months ago we had Debra Yates on the podcast. She came on and told us some amazing stories about her 7x great grandmother Nancy Ward (Nanyehi).  Her book,  Woman of Many Names is now available on Amazon in hardcopy and paperback. It will soon be coming to the Kindle.

Nanyehi was a Beloved Woman of the Cherokee, which meant that she was allowed to sit in councils and to make decisions, along with the chiefs and other Beloved Women. She believed in peaceful coexistence with the European-Americans and helped her people as peace negotiator and ambassador. She also introduced them to farming and dairy production bringing substantial changes to the Cherokee society.

Debra’s book is a deeper look into a woman who helped shaped the history of our Nation. Nancy Ward had ties to Daniel Boone and George Washington, including having saved the latter’s life.  She has been memorialized in Benton, Tennessee, by a federal historical marker.

The Story of Librivox.Org – Audiobook Heaven

We listen to a lot of stories here on the podcast each week and more than just a few come from Librivox.Org. But what is it? -and- What do they do? This article attempts to explain and document this amazing free service.

What is Librivox.org?

LibriVox is a group of worldwide volunteers who read and record public domain texts creating free public domain audiobooks for download from their website. It was founded in 2005 by Hugh McGuire to provide “Acoustical liberation of books in the public domain.”  As of April 2015 it had 8,664 items in its collection. Most releases are in the English language, but many non-English works are also available. LibriVox is closely affiliated with Project Gutenberg, and the Internet Archive who hosts their offerings. We have talked about the Internet Archive many times on the show. They provide the mass majority of what you hear on the RAS.

Where does term Librivox.org come from?

LibriVox is an invented word inspired by the two Latin terms liber (book) and vox (voice). The word was also coined because liber means; child and free, independent and unrestricted. Here is what their founders had to say about it.

“We like to think LibriVox might be interpreted as ‘child of the voice’, and ‘free voice’. Finally, the other link we like is ‘library’ so you could imagine it to mean Library of Voice.” – LibriVox forum

So there you have the LibriVox.org story. I highly recommend their site and encourage you to visit. You will be amazed at sheer volume of materials they have. Everything from famous speeches to Aesop’s fables.

Repurpose and Republish

The title sounds a bit scary doesn’t it, Repurpose and Republish? Has Ron gotten lazy and is he trying use his past work so he can play more video games? No, that is not what I am talking about. What I am thinking is that I want to do something with the over 200 shows that I have created. Occasionally I do replay one. In fact this week we will have a repeat. Although, this one came as request and is a not an effort to ditch work.

So what is this all about? I have been thinking about putting together a “best of” series of podcasts and offering it to the masses at a humble price. I wonder if the public would enjoy it enough to even buy one copy? What do you guys think? Can you take a minute of your time and tell me if you would buy such a thing if it existed?

Follow this link to – Contact Ron’s Amazing Stories – and leave me some feedback. It will only take a second and it help me to decide. This would be a Amazon offering.

I bought a coloring book! Not just any coloring book mind you , but one from the paranormal guru, Jim Harold. Coloring Book
The Campfire Coloring Book is available on Amazon.

What Jim has done is brought his true ghost stories to life for your coloring enjoyment. 25 images and patterns so stunning they jump off the page! Also he has two color test pages plus a key explaining the origin and meaning of each image. Ghosts, alternate realities and the strange side of life are featured in these single sided pages. All inspired by Jim’s popular Campfire books and podcast series.

The original illustrations were done by acclaimed artist Len Peralta. Len was recently hired to create concept sketches for the new Ghostbusters (2016) movie. Simply put, he’s darn good!
