RAS #355 – Anything You Can Do

Happy ThanksgivingFirst, let me say Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family. I hope your time is rich with good friends, family, and food. You may have noticed that there was no blog this week and that the podcast is publishing a day early. This is so I too can enjoy time with my family.

On Ron’s Amazing Stories this week we listen to the final three chapters of Anything You Can Do before the epic conclusion next week. Also, we have two of my favorite stories sent in by you, Mason Henry Blue and The Emily Reese Story.

Again Happy Thanksgiving,

-Ron

Featured Story – Chapters 20 thru 11 of Anything You Can Do…

This is a classic science fiction story written by Randall Garrett and published in 1963. An alien crash lands on Earth, and for ten years terrorizes the planet. Earth’s only hope is Bart Stanton, a medically-engineered superman, designed for the sole purpose of confronting the Nipe. In this episode, Bart finally faces the Nipe. This is the fantastic sequence that answers all of the questions you had about the Nipe and the twins Bart and Mart.

What’s Next On The RAS?

Whats Next On Ron's Amazing StoriesWe are closing in on the end of our story Anything You Can Do by Randall Garrett. With its conclusion looming Wanda Snyder from Toronto asks this question:

Hello Ron, Thank you for the podcast! I love science fiction and I am enjoying Anything You Can Do. When we took the break from it during the month of October it was all I could to stop myself from going to listen to the rest of it. Now that we are back on track I am excited about the end. What will happen after we finish the book? My vote is for more science fiction. I think it is a good fit for your show.  – Wanda

Thank you, Wanda! I have been enjoying Anything You Can Do as well, and judging by the listener’s response you and I are not the only folks to know a great story. I have been looking for the next thing that we will be listening to on the podcast and to be honest I’m not sure what that will be. A lot of people love the old time radio, and a lot of you the idea of listening to a book. I do know I will be looking for more science fiction, maybe in the form of a novella. A novella is basically a shorter novel. I’ve also toyed with the idea of writing my own short stories and presenting them here. Whatever is next I promise you it will be amazing.

One of the things I am looking into is an Idea suggested to me from Mark Lopez.

Hi Ron: I love your podcast and I never miss an episode. I discovered that many of Philip K. Dick’s works are in the public domain and they are featured on LibriVox. One of my favorite stories by him is “Second Variety”. I think you and all of my fellow listeners will like it. It scared the heck out of me. Please keep up the good work. – Regards, Mark Lopez

Well, Mark, this is a strong contender for the show. It plays out in four 30 minute parts which fit the category of the novella perfectly. It was first published in Space Science Fiction in May of 1953, and is a classic Philip K. Dick story!

My question is to all of you. What do you think about this, and what do you want to hear on the podcast? I am open to all ideas and suggestions. Head to ronsamazingstories.com and leave your comment there, or better yet head to our Facebook page and let’s start a conversation there.  I want this podcast to be your podcast.

My thanks to Mark and Wanda for the great questions,

-Ron

RAS #353 – The Brook’s Robbery

On Ron’s Amazing Stories we get a nerdy question from Ora, which I have fun answering. Delia from Wisconsin tells us about a protective ghost, and we take a walk in a haunted park. Also, we read the next two chapters of Anything You Can Do by Randall Garrett, and then we end it all with Tom warning us about the dangers of bologna and mayonnaise sandwiches.

Featured Story – Chapters 17 & 18  of Anything You Can Do…

This is a classic science fiction story written by Randall Garrett and published in 1963. An alien crash lands on Earth, and for ten years terrorizes the planet. Earth’s only hope is Bart Stanton, a medically-engineered superman, designed for the sole purpose of confronting the Nipe.

In this episode, Bart deals with the death of his friend and mentor. Detective Martin who we have learned is Bart’s twin brother returns to story. Will we, at last, have some answers as to why they were separated from each other. Tune in and find out.

The News – November 2018

Spooky 2018

A Freaky GraphI should start out with just how successful the Month Of Spooky was for 2018. Based on the numbers and the comments that I received this was our most successful event to date. They were up over last years event from about 8700 per episode to about 9400. That is an 8% increase over last year! These are the internet numbers and don’t reflect those who listen on the radio. Also, we received a total of 13 stories from you guys for the month. This is an all-time record for a single month in the history of the podcast. Thank you so much for listening and supporting the show.

The Radio Show

Many of you have been asking for clarification on the changing of the podcast and what it means to the radio show. I have talked this over with Jason, who produces the radio show, and things are not going to change. We will continue to have the same content on both platforms. However, there is a caveat: The radio show is limited to 55 minutes. If a podcast runs over that limit I will have to edit the radio side to fit the time requirement. (Example: This past month the Old Time Horror episode with Jim Harold had a total running time of 1:06. I was forced to edit that down. Not to worry though I used a little editing trick and sped up parts of the program. You may have noticed that in some places the action was a bit faster. Mostly on the OTR program.  Pretty tricky huh!)

Looking forward to Christmas

I am again asking for your stories.  This time Jason and I are planning a Christmas spirits program and want your spooky Christmas stories.  So, please if you have such a thing please get in contact with me at this link.  Thank you!
