The News October 2019

RAS News Update - Blog PostFrom time to time I like to bring you up to date on the News as it relates to Ron’s Amazing Stories.

The 400th Episode:
The biggest news is that this week we present our 400th episode of the show. If you had told me on episode one that we would reach 400, I wouldn’t have been so sure. It was a slow start back then and having 50 or 60 people download the show was exciting. Now it’s thousands of people and growing. We are on the radio where they tell me it is as much as 83,000 people are listening. Crazy to think about. But I have you to thank for it.  So, here is to 100 more.

The Month Of Spooky 2019 Begins:
My favorite time of year. Many of you have told me that really the podcast is celebrating spooky all year round now. I would have to agree with that, but we still have that special month where it just seems more spooky and the stories get even crazier. This year we begin the season with Jim Harold co-hosting and four amazing UFO stories sent in by you guys. Slyvia and Jason will be back as well and without any doubt, the month is going to be even more spooky.

The Numbers:
I have started looking at numbers from all over the place. Podcasting has become a big business and tracking the success of these shows has become a full-time job for people. One thing that has changed in the past few months is the categories. In the beginning, the show was under “Performing Arts”, which I think you will agree does not describe us. Our main category now is fiction, which has been a game-changer. Keep in mind that these numbers represent just apple podcasts which are about 30% of our audience.

RAS #399 – Project Hush

On Ron’s Amazing Stories we have a question of character, a maid faces a shadow, a calming reflection, and a malicious orb. And, that’s all in the first 20 minutes. Then we have our featured story, Project Hush, which is a big secret. We end the show with, Johnny Is It True – Random Strangeness

Featured Story – Project Hush

We have an excellent story called Project Hush. It comes from Galaxy Science Fiction in February 1954. If that sounds familiar you are observant. This is the third story we have had from that issue. Our government is always being accused of being secretive. This story suggests a possible result of being a bit too secret. The Tag for this one reads:

The biggest job in history and it had to be done with complete secrecy. It was—which was just the trouble!

The Month Of Spooky 2019

The Return of the VampireIt is that time of year again where we put on our masks and celebrate all things spooky. For those of you who are new to Ron’s Amazing Stories each October we dedicate the show to Halloween.  All of the stories you will hear this month will follow the scary theme. We begin the season with episode 400! Obviously a landmark show. It will include four brand new UFO stories sent in by Margarito, Barbara, Scott and my brother Jim. Also, as an added treat Jim Harold host of Campfire, The Paranormal Podcast, and Podlords will join me to co-host the show.

Jim Harold - Podcaster

During the month I will be testing a new idea out. Starting on October 8th we will have two shows per week. The first publishing on Tuesday. This show will focus on your submitted stories and should be about 30 minutes. Then on Thursday the second podcast will publish and will be a scary story from either Old Time Radio or horror magazines of the ’50s and ’60s. It will also have the interviews for the month

I hope this turns out, because if it does I may go to it later on. We will return to the normal one podcast per week in November.  Please let me know what you think.

-Ron
