The Bigfoot Visit

Ike, who lives in Atlanta, sends us this Bigfoot tale. If this one doesn’t curl your toes you just might want to have them checked. Ike is currently serving in the army (Thank you for your service. It is an honor to have your story). I have heard that the Northern Mountains of Georgia are a hotbed for Bigfoot sightings. I guess this kind of proves it. Here is his email:

The Bigfoot Visit

Hello Ron, it took me a while to get up the courage to send you my story. I am currently in the Army and listen to the show on weekends. The story I am going to tell you has nothing to do with my current job. It happened to me while I was training at Fort Jackson.

My buddy and I are both from Atlanta and decided to travel home together during Christmas. My dad planned a late season hunting trip. We set up our camp along a river. As it happens we experienced one of the warmest hunting days in years, not shorts and tank top weather, but not the normal bitter cold that represents the mountains in December.  We were looking to bag us a deer before the end of the season.

That first night was just getting things set and having a fantastic dinner. Our tents were spaced about twenty yards apart. His tent was facing the front of the trail and mine and my Dad’s were butted against some blackberry bushes. Earlier that afternoon I  tried to get some game birds to fly into camp by throwing some bread chunks between the tents. No dice. Being a little tired from traveling we decided to turn in a little early and get a fresh start in the morning. Around 2:00 am I heard my buddy walking around camp, he walked behind my tent (between the blackberries), and finally stopped at the door to my tent. Just before asking him, “What’s up?” I heard snoring. It was coming from the tent some twenty yards away!

My heart began to beat at a rate I didn’t think was humanly possible. It felt like my chest was going to explode. I listened closely to the ground and I heard the ‘thing’ walk back over towards my buddies tent. It was quiet for a bit and then started moving again, stopping just about where my dad was camped.  I heard a splash at the river and at that moment I decided it was far enough away I might get a good look. I threw my tent open! flashlight blazing.

The fog was so thick I could barely see the river….but something was there, something tall enough that the four feet of water only came just above its knees. It ran deeper into the water and disappeared.

The next morning, I asked my buddy and dad if either of them got up last night and walked around camp. My buddy said “no… I thought that was you.” and my dad said,”no..that wasn’t me.”

I have no idea what I saw! I know it wasn’t a bear or anything like that because it stood on two feet and moved through the swift running river like it was a creek. BTW all of the bread chunks I had laid down were gone. – Ike

RAS #600 – The 600th Show

This is #600 of Ron’s Amazing Stories. This time around I am going to just take it all in and say, man have I really done 600 podcasts. I think back to episode one of the show. It was not very good, and I didn’t have any idea of what I was doing or where it was all going to lead. But, here we are today and I have to say that I am happy with where it has all gone. There are so many people to thank that I won’t even try. Over the next few shows I hope to do that by bringing some of those folks back. Well see how that goes.

So what are we going to do on this show? We have an audiobook review of an audible original, three brand new stories sent in by you for you, a creepy tale suggested and read to us by James, and our featured story looks at the end of the world from a robot’s point of view. We also have a special edition of Johnny Is It True 600th show edition. So, press that play button and enjoy the show. Happy 600th!

Featured Story – The Ultimate Experiment

The Ultimate Experiment

Our featured story is one that we have had on the show before, but it remains a favorite. It is a fact that we all have a mortality date. But what about the human race? I think that it is pretty clear we humans have an expiration date as well. The question should be, what will we leave behind? Our story explores that idea and gives one plausible answer. It is titled The Ultimate Experiment written by Thornton Deky. It first appeared in Comet Magazine in July of 1941.

No living soul breathed upon the earth. Only robots, carrying on the last great order.

Stories Include – Diamond Smugglers, The Dispatcher, Annie It’s Not Making Any Noise, Did you see that?, The Whitney Restaurant, The Ultimate Experiment, Johnny, is it True – The 600th Epsiode, and An Incident On Route 12

The Porch Ghost

Mike in Chicago sent this one a few years ago in response to a story that we had on the podcast. A woman was warned, by a ghost child, of a car that was going to hit the house. Sure enough later that night a car slammed into the bedroom wall. Because of the warning she had decided to sleep in her daughter’s room. Everyone was safe. I never actually read this on the show, but it is an amazing story.

The Porch Ghost

My grandfather told me this story about how one time he was sitting in a chair in front of the house, when he heard his wife repeatedly calling him from inside the house. The thing is, my grandmother passed away a few years before that. But he told me that the voice was so pressing that he actually got up to look inside the house, and as soon as he got inside he heard a loud crash behind him and turned around to see that the chair he has been sitting in moments ago had been crushed by the cast iron gutter that fell on it. If he hadn’t come inside the house he would have probably been seriously injured. I don’t know if it’s paranormal or not, but every time I think about it it sends chills down my spine. – Mike

On Ron’s Amazing Stories we don’t get many tales like these. I really think that more events like this happen all the time, but we tend to brush them off. Whether guardian angel or ghost does it really matter?

This Week’s Podcast:

On the show this week we have three of your stories; a UFO encounter in Arizona, a collection of tales from a haunted home, and one titled The Whitney Restaurant. Also, James suggests a story and reads it for us. It is titled An Incident On Route 12. You can listen to this podcast on Thursday at Ron’s Amazing Stories, download it from Apple Podcasts, stream it on Stitcher Radio or on the mobile version of Spotify. Do you prefer the radio? RAS #599 – Journey To The Center Of The Earth

On Ron’s Amazing Stories we have Journey To The Center Of The Earth week. I’m going to tell you all about the original work. We have a listener story inspired by the tale, and then we listen to a 70’s radio adaptation of the Jules Vern classic. So grab a favorite beverage, press that play button, and enjoy the show.

Featured Story – Journey To The Center Of The Earth

Jules Vern

Our featured story comes from The General Mills Radio Adventure Theater. It premiered on the CBS Radio Network in 1977 with Himan Brown as producer and director. They took classic adventure stories and turned them into radio dramas. Some of the titles they presented were The Last Of The Mohicans, King Soloman’s Mines, The Red Badge Of Courage, and many others. One of the most popular stories was Journey To The Center Of The Earth. The question is could they mash that story down into less than 40 minutes? Well, today we are going to find out. It first aired on CBS radio on March 24, 1977.

Other Stories Include – The Broken Wheel, Review – The Journey To The Center Of The Earth, The Cave Of The Winds, and Journey To The Center Of The Earth
