On the program this week we will be playing an episode of The Screen Directors Playhouse. I am slowly working through these shows, and have come to the conclusion that these dramas represent the best of old time radio. It truly was the theater of the mind. They had to do with sound what video does with sight. Amazing!

The episode we will play deals with a dark time in history. It was after WWII and trials that took place at Nuremberg. Not all of the war criminals were tried during that time. A few escaped and had to be tracked down. One of these was Klaus Barbie. He was the head of the Gestapo in occupied French Lyon. He was also known as the Butcher of Lyon. Our story takes a look at this real character and the events that lead to his arrest. However, it uses a fictional place and an alias for Klaus. Why they did that is lost to time.
The story is titled Rogue’s Regiment and was part of the final season of The Screen Directors Playhouse. It stars one of my favorite Actors Dick Powel and has a 50’s film noir feel to it. It first aired on May 17, 1951.
I am pretty sure you are going to enjoy this one
