Our story for this week comes from Ann. This one originally appeared in episode #189 – No Rest For The Dead. Ann never gave her real name, but her story is so incredible that I wanted to bring it back. I hope you enjoy it. Please leave comments below. I would love to know what you think – Ron
My husband and I bought a small house in a pretty good neighborhood. We didn’t have much to spend and were very surprised at the cost of the home. It had two bedrooms and a large two car garage. It was perfect because my husband Ed had just started his own business, needed an office and a place to store his wares.
The first year there was bliss. The extra bedroom became an office as planned. However, we had a bit of an accident and our daughter Mary was on her way. To say we weren’t ready for a child is an understatement. However, the business was doing okay and Ed had even hired Mike to handle shipping and deliveries. About three months before the baby was due we began the remodeling process. That’s when stuff started happening. At first it was simple things like a misplaced hammer, a spilled package of nails, bangs at night and even a dog barking. We didn’t have a dog you see.
Then came the bigger things. Ed and Mike had finished the dry wall for the new office in the garage. They came back the next day only to have it completely torn down. Mike blamed it on kids, Ed wasn’t so sure. You see not many lived nearby.
One night Mike was setting up his shipping and deliveries for the next day. He felt a pinch and then a wave of nausea swept over him. He was able to call out and then passed out on the floor. Ed and I ran to the garage and found him in a pool of blood. He had been struck in the head by a nail and it had sunk itself into his skull. The nail gun was on the floor as well. We rushed him to the hospital. The nail was removed and Mike fully recovered. We all figured that nail gun had fallen off the bench and had misfired. The accident had left a large blood stain on the floor. No matter how hard we tried we were never able to clean that spot up completely.
Nothing else happened after that and we finished the work on the house. Mary came two months later and we again settled into a routine. That is until that last night.
Mike was working late in the garage and we were sitting down to dinner. The room began to shake and at first we thought it was an earthquake. It didn’t take us long to figure out our house was the only one shaking. We checked on Mike in the garage. He was there, but he was staring at us with what I can only describe as dead eyes. In his hand was the nail gun and he was repeatedly pulling the trigger. Had it been plugged-in he surely would have shot himself in the face several times as we stood there and watched. Ed knocked the gun out of his hands and dragged him out to the car. Throwing him in the back seat and loading me and baby (In shock). We all got the heck out of there.
I never went back to the house. Both Ed and Mike did and said the damage was incredible. The fire department listed it as a sinkhole, but we knew better. The insurance company paid off and we quickly sold the property, lock stock and barrel.
