RAS #453 – Strange Encounters

This time on Ron’s Amazing Stories we travel to Kentucky for an encounter with a ghost girl in an abandoned air-raid bunker. Then we return to the Adolphus Hotel in Dallas Texas for another encounter with the jilted bride. How about Robin’s encounter with bigfoot on Vancouver Island. Do you see a pattern here? You should, the theme for the show is Strange Encounters. But we don’t stop there, we also have a classic story from the pen of Kurt Vonnegut and we end the show with a story from WWI about General George Patton.

Our featured story this week comes from the creative mind of Kurt Vonnegut Jr. The story we will hear was suggested by listener Warren Silva. He thought it had a lot to say about our times and where we are going. I am not so sure about that, but I will say it is quite unique. It is titled 2Br02b and was first published in If Magazine in the January 1962 edition.

Windstorm Delays Podcast?

Well that will remain to be seen. Right now we are in the middle of one of the strangest windstorms to hit the pacific northwest ever. It is 90 degrees outside blowing in from the east and has caused a fair amount of damage. The wind speeds have been clocked as high as 80 mph. My front and backyard look like an atomic bomb struck. Because of this, and the threat of losing power at any moment, I am not turning on the main computer systems. Without those I can’t record. So, until things calm down I am not able to work on the show other than scripting. I hope to be on time, but we shall see.

RAS #452 – The Boots Of Goulburn

On Ron’s Amazing Stories this time we have a brand new Johnny Is It True segment sent in by listener Kevin Bishop, A ghost story from a prison in Australia, and an OTR horror classic from the series Lights Out titled The Little People.

Featured Story – The Little People

Our featured story for this week is creepy. There is no other way to describe it. I remember when I first heard this a few years ago I thought that maybe it was too creepy for the show. Maybe it is? You’ll have to decide that for yourself. It tells the story of a man obsessed with getting even and in the end, gets just that. However, does getting even mean you win? Our story is titled The Little People and comes from the dark horror series Lights Out. It first aired in May of 1937.

Every once in a while a listener writes in a question that is best answered via a blog post. That is the case for this week. Paz Vickery, from Montreal, Canada sent this in from the website:

Hello Ron, I want to thank you for your show. It is the best medicine out there right now for Covid-19. I have asthma so I stay at home. That makes your podcast my best friend. I have a question that I have been wanting to ask. How do you know that people are listening to your podcast? – Paz

That is a great question Paz. I have never had anyone ask that before. The answer is simple actually, because this day in time the internet tracks pretty much everything we do and interact with. How many times have you looked at a product on Amazon only to see that very same item show up in an email or as part of a Facebook post. The same holds true for podcasting. When you click on my link and listen to the show it tracks your visit. My provider counts those visits and gives me the number. I can drill down and find out where my most downloads are and even how long, on average, you listen. Did you listen to the whole show or quit at 70%. I can use that data to help me understand what you liked or didn’t like.

On the radio side it is much different. My radio producer can only guess at the number of people listening to the on-the-air broadcasts. However, they can count live connections to the radio’s internet live feed at any given time. The last time I asked, I was told that number is around 83,000 connections. Are they truly listening? Who Can say.

The Internet is my best source of reliable numbers that I can say for sure that people are out there listening. I do know this there must be someone out there listening because I get questions like yours, stories, comments and requests every day.
